It contracted malaria while in the swamp where Mr. Ward farmed this year. ================================================================================== NOTE: John Thomas Ward (10 Apr 1885 – 31 Oct 1898) was the son of James Addison Ward [Jim] (7 Apr 1856 – 26 Dec 1926) and Nancy Steel McGough [Nan] (12 Dec 1859 – 20 Aug 1933). They lived a few miles east of Farmerville off the Ward's Chapel Road. John was buried in the Taylor/Liberty Hill Cemetery. His tombstone states that he died on October 31st, but the newspaper article says he died on "Sunday", which would have been the 30th (since the paper came out on Wednesdays). John T. Ward's paternal grandparents were John Thomas Ward [Jack] (30 June 1835 – 30 Dec 1883) and Sarah Ann Elizabeth Scarborough [Betsy] (3 Sept 1838 – 25 Mar 1914). His maternal grandparents were William Sidney McGough (c1826 – 12 Nov 1864) and Elizabeth Baker (c1825 – after 1870). ###############################################################################
