Moseley (9 June 1840 - 9 July 1900) was born in South Carolina. He arrived in Union Parish in the latter 1860s. He was married to Frances Anna ? (1841 - 8 May 1875). Henry farmed south of Farmerville in Ward 5 near Bayou d'Arbonne in 1870. He owned property on a high bluff along the bayou, and he opened and operated a store there. The bluff soon became known as Moseley's Bluff, with a post office opening there on 17 March 1875. Moseley served as postmaster from 1886 until his death in 1900. After Fannie's death in 1875, he remarried to Louisa (c1847 - after 1900). Moseley was known as "Captain", but it is not known if he earned this rank by service in the Confederate Army or as a steamboat captain. ================================================================================== ================================================================================== Capt. H. E. Moseley, of Moseley's Bluff, this parish, died Monday at the hospital in Shreveport. His wfie and son were at his bedside when he breathed his last. For the past several months Capt. Moseley has been in bad health, and a few weeks ago he was carried to the hospital where it was hoped medical treatment might restore his health, but the Death Angel had a summons for him and he had to respond. For several hears Capt. Moseley conducted a large and successful mercantile business at Moseley's Bluff, but aboutg 10 years ago financial reverses overtook him, from which he was never able to recover. In his younger days he was active and energetic, and a fine business man. At the time of his death he was about 60 years old.
