She leaves three children to mourn her loss. ================================================================================== ================================================================================== From the Farmerville "Gazette", issue dated Wednesday, 23 April 1902, page 3 ================================================================================== ================================================================================== In Memoriam. _____ Our dear mother has passed over the river that we all must cross; her sufferings are over; she quietly rests beside her dear husband and children who had already gone before. How sad it was to hear of this noble christain's [sic] death. Martha Ford Smith was born in the State of Alabama in 1829, died Marth 14th, 1902, having lived nearly seventy-two years. She was united to the Baptist church near her home about thirty years ago, she having made Meridian church a faithful member from the time she joined till her death. How can I realize that our dear mother is no more? The old home she loved so well has lost part of its brightness, for a home was never brightened by a more cheerful or sweeter face than was hers. She lived for her children. The community in which she lived her beautiful life feels bereaved over their loss. They miss her gentleness. She could think no evil because evil was not a part of her. But where did she learn this wisdom her soul was her guide. Again I say that all who knew our lovely mother will feel that a great soul has departed. We weep tears of sorrow over the loss; for in the loss a friend of gentleness, kindness, love and truth, honor and integrity has passed from us. She came among us to bring the message of love and peace and good will. How many of us are ready to receive that message?
