A. Dean died last Friday evening at his home, five miles east of Farmerville, after a protracted illness with lung trouble. He leaves a large family and a host of friends to mourn his death." [Note: James Alexander Dean (1836-1903) was a son of Josiah Deanes (c1800-1851) and Sarah Taylor Deanes. He was born in Lowndes Co AL, but moved to Louisiana in 1837. He was a Confederate soldier, serving under General Stonewall Jackson in the Army of Northern Virginia. Dean was seriously wounded in the shoulder during Jackson's Shenandoah Campaign of 1862 and sent home. He rejoined a local regiment in 1863 commanded by Capt. Jordan G. Taylor, his first cousin. Dean married Jeffalonia Bransford in 1867. He died on 10 July 1903.] # # #
