It was quite a shock to the relatives and many friends in this section to learn of the death of Mr. Lee Goyne, which occured at his home in Gibsland, La., last Friday, of Typhoid fever. His remains were carried to Bernice and buried the following day. Deceased was a native of Farmerville, having been raised by his grandfather, the late Mr. Jno. M. Lee, Sr. of this place. Some years ago he moved from here to BErnice, where he lived for several years, goving from there to Arcadia and then to Gibsland. The Gibsland correspondent to the Shreveport Times of Saturday, had the following: A gloom of sadness was spread over our city on Friday morning when it was known that Mr. Lee Goyne died during the night. He had been ill for some days with fever, and had grown rapidly worse from the beginning. Deceased was the valued manager of the Maxey mercantile firm, and an upright Christian gentleman. He leaves a wife and four small children and other relatives and friends to mourn their loss. The remains were carried to Bernice, their former home for burial. ================================================================================== Note: Lee Goyne (14 July 1872 - 7 Oct 1910) was the son of Joseph Ryland Goyne (15 June 1830 - 11 Feb 1880) and Sarah Jane Lee (31 Dec 1852 - 10 June 1879). Lee's grandfather Hiram Davis Goyne, Sr. (c1799 - 1852) moved his family from Houston County Georgia to Farmerville in 1848. Sallie Lee Goyne was the daughter of John Martin Lee (24 July 1829 - 30 June 1893) and Mary Jane Taylor (14 June 1831 - 18 Oct 1904). John M. Lee was the son of Martin Batte Lee and Lavincy Albritton, whereas Mary J. Taylor Lee was the daughter of Judge John Taylor and his wife, Jane Wood. Thus, Lee Goyne descended from many of the early pioneer settlers of Union Parish Louisiana. Lee Goyne married on 14 May 1894 in Union Parish to Mary Etta Heard (22 May 1875 - 18 Nov 1940). ###########################################################
