                  Killing in Ward Ten

Last Friday about ten o’clock in the forenoon, one Base Bales shot and Killed 
J. D. Aulds at the latter’s store at Point in ward 10 of this parish.

The information we have says that Bales drove up to Aulds’ store in a car and got 
out and went in to get some cigarettes or smoking tobacco. When Aulds was in the 
act of getting same for him, he drew a revolver and fired two shots at Aulds both 
of which were effective and he died instantly. Then Bales proceeded to his home or 
to wherever he was going and after being there a few minutes committed suicide by 
shooting himself.

This is, indeed, a deplorable affair; about the worst we have had in the parish 
in a long time. 

Aulds was also postmaster at the Point postoffice which was kept in his store.

Note: James David Auld, Jr. (14 Oct 1893 – 6 Apr 1923) married Lydia Ella Day. 
Auld was the son of James David Auld, Sr. [Jim] (16 Dec 1870 – 10 Mar 1893) and 
Susan Malissa Henry (Mar 1870 – after 1910), who married in Union Parish on 4 
December 1890. Susan Malissa Henry was the daughter of William Marvin Henry and 
Malissa Tabitha Wilhite. James D. Auld, Sr. was the son of John Robert Auld 
(1834-1870) and Rachel Jane Ward (1832-1870).
