Thomas Kade Phillips death date was May 22, 1939. Bernice's Oldest Citizen Passed Away Wednesday T. K. (Uncle Tom) Phillips, passed away last Wednesay morning at 7:OO o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. L. Key, two and a half miles southeast of town, after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Phillips passed his 88th birthday last August 24th. He came to Louisiana in 1858 from the state of Alabama with his parents, who settled near Vienna in what is now Lincoln Parish. Mr. Phillips was a devout member of the Methodist Church. He had operated a retail seed business in Bernice for the past eight years. His wife, who before their marriage was Miss Pamela Tanner , preceded him in death some 28 years. Surviving Mr. Phillips are two sons, L. M. Phillips, connected with the Tech faculty Ruston and S. E. Phillips of Shreveport; three daughters, Mrs. Mattie Key of Bernice, with whom he made his home; Mrs. Lizzie Mc Culler and Mrs. Susie Green, both of near Bernice; also 28 grandchildren and many other relatives. ............................................ Note: Thomas Kade Phillips b. 24 Aug. 1851 died 22 May 1939 is buried in Pine Grove Cemetary in Union Parish. He was son of Malachi W. Phillips and Esther Sarah (Susan ) Lester . # # #
