THAXTON HELD MONDAY Last rites for J.L.E. Thaxton, 80, who died at his home two miles from Bernice last Sunday afternoon of pneumonia, were held from the Pisgah Baptist Church, near Bernice at 2:30 PM, Monday, with the Rev. R. B. Middleton officiating. Internment was in the Pisgah Cemetary under direction of the Kilpatrick Funeral Home. Surviving are the widow Mrs. Ophelia Barrett Thaxton, and the following sons and daughters, W.S. Thaxton of Wisner, P. R. Thaxton of Doyline, Mrs. John W. Grafton of Bernice, LA, Mrs. T.H. Grafton of Minden, and Mrs. Ellie Coplen of Minden. Twenty three grandchildren and ten great grandchildren survive." NOTE: David B. Reynolds is the great-grandson of J.L.E. Thaxton. J.L.E. (Juneus Lectus Eugene) Thaxton was born November 27, 1864 in Butts County, Georgia, a son of Ritchmond Rivers Thaxton and Margaret Jane Furgerson (Ritchmond and Jane Thaxton also buried at Pisgah Cemetery).
