May 22, 1982 Bertha Porter Burns Bernice, LA. Services will be held for Mrs. Bertha Porter Burns, 97, of Bernice, at 3 p.m. Saturday May 22 at the First Baptist Church of Bernice. Rev. Donald B. Lemons will officiate, assisted by Rev. Jim Arrant. Burial will be in Bernice City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home. She died Friday May 21, 1982 at 10 a.m. at the Tri-ward Hospital in Bernice following a short illness. Mrs. Burns , the wife of the late Rev. M. V. Burns, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bernice. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Alice McKenzie Durham of Junction City, Ark.; three sons, Edward Young Burns of Bernice, James L. Burns of Spearsville, La. and Van H. Burns of Saline, La.; two brothers, Martin A. Porter of Bernice and Wesley W. Porter of Farmerville, La.; one sister, Mrs. Jewel Phillips of Smackover, Ark.; 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren . Pallbearers will be James Phillips, Eddie Burns, Terry Young Burns, Donald Lindsey, W. C. Hussell and Joe Hatley. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Note: Bertha Porter Burns was my mothers sister and was in every way a Christian influence on all who knew her, she was born October 24, 1884. Her parents were James Tillman Porter and Sarah Francis Patrick. She was preceded in death by her husband , Rev. Van Burns, a son, Taft Burns, and a daughter Mary Lou Durham. # # #
