This is from the collection of the late Ora Ward Manning, the mother of Peggy Rockett. Mr. C. L. Upshaw C.L. Upshaw, 52, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, died February 7, 1995 in an Atlanta hospital of a heart attack. The funeral and burial were held in Snellville, Ga. He was born near Spearsville, La. and moved to Bossier City as a small boy. Known as Cecil in the Sports world, he was a Centenary College basketball Hall of Famer before signing a major league baseball contract, playing briefly with Houston, Cleveland, and the New York Yankees before eventually signing with the Atlanta Braves as a left-handed relief pitcher for seven seasons. An accident freak injury ended his career. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Wilma (Boatright) Upshaw. He is survived by four children - Carol U. McDaniel of Augusta, Ga., Cecil Lee Upshaw III of Reidsville, Ga., Del Hamilton Upshaw and Amanda Louise Upshaw of Lithonia, Ga., and two grandchildren. # # #
