Tuesday, November 2,1999 at First Baptist church of Bernice. Officiating was Rev. David Weeks, assisted by Rev. Donald Lemmons. Interment was held at the Bernice city Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Bernice. Mr. Burns died Sunday, October 31,1999, at home after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents Rev. Marion Van Burns and Bertha Porter Burns, a brother Taft Burns, a sister Mary Lou Durham, and his first wife Cecile Odom Burns. He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Demaris Rockett Burns; a son Terry Young Burns and his wife Jeanne Goss Burns and their children, and their two children Brittany and Paul Young Burns; two daughters Rebecca Burns Barnett and three grandchildren Jenny Rebecca Carroll, and husband John, Ben Barnett and wife Beth, Cecile Janilu Colvin and husband Billy Harry Colvin, and their three children, Stephanie Colvin Solis, Jason Colvin, and Scott Colvin, and one great-grandchild Daniel Solis. He is also survived by a sister, Alice Durham; two brothers; Van H. Burns and wife Margaret, and James L. Burns and his wife Emma Lee; and a sister-in-law, Madge Burns. He has one nephew, Edd Burns and three Nieces Christy Hatley, Cathy Nash, and Vanette Harris. Mr. Burns loved his Lord, his family, his church, his many friends, and all sports, especially the LSU Tigers. He was an active deacon in First Baptist Church for many years and a member of Fellowship Sunday school Class. He attended Texas Military Institute in Terrell, TX and graduated from Louisiana Collage in Pineville, LA. He worked for the Louisiana State Department of Public Welfare, in the Union Parish Office for 35 years. He was member of the Retired State Employees Association. He loved his country and served in the World War II as a Pharmacist's Mate, 2nd class, attached to the 3rd division of the U.S. Marines of the U.S. Navy, in the Pacific Theater of War. He has been a member of the American Legion over 50 years. Active Pallbearers were Paul Young Burns, Ben Barnett, Jason and Scott Colvin, Edd Burns, John Carroll, and Danny Solis. Honorary Pallbearers were Deacons of the Bernice First Baptist Church, Men's Fellowship Sunday school Class, Raymond Odom and Dendy Elliott. # # #
