All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ This obituary appeared in the Bernice Banner September 8, 2000 DOLORES HOLLIS Services for Dolores Gunter Hollis were held at 2 PM on Tuesday, Sept. 5 in the Chapel of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Farmerville. Mrs. Hollis, 87 was the daughter of Albert Lloyd Gunter and Rose Dettenheim Gunter. She was a longtime resident of Rocky Branch, and a lifetime resident of Union Parish. She died on Sept. 1 at Alpine Guest Care Center in Ruston. Kenneth "Pete" Brantley and Jerry Lee officiated at the services. Burial was in the Antioch Cemetery in Spearsville. Mrs. Hollis was born on July 22,1913 in Lillie. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Flavil D. Hollis; a sister, Nina Bolen; and a half-brother, Otho Gunter. Survivors include her daughters, Dianne H. Lundy of Pineville and Sallis Rose Hollis of Ruston; and one grandson, Jonathan Lundy of Pineville. She was a graduate of Louisiana Tech and also received advanced degrees from Northeast Louisiana University. She taught school in Union Parish for 41 years, the last 15 as principal of Rocky Branch Elementary. She also taught at Beech Grove, Lillie, Antioch, Cross Roads and Farmerville schools. She was also a volunteer for the Ladies Auxiliary for the Union General Hospital in Farmerville. She served on the Union parish Library Board for seven years. She was a 4-H club leader for 35 years and was selected as the outstanding Leader in the State in 1958. She was also a member Of the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and taught Sunday School and singing classes to children. She was a talented artist and was also known for her love of animals and her beautiful alto voice. Pallbearers were Hollis Fulton, Aubrey Laster, Ben Martin, Jim Pardue, Lanny Parker and Charlie Waller. # # #
