All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ This obituary appeared in the Bernice Banner May 4, 2001 CHARLES GILBERT "CHUCK" BERNARD Funeral services for Charles Gilbert "Chuck" Bernard, 77, of Farmerville, LA were held Monday, April 30, 2001 in the Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel, Farmerville, LA. Officiating was Rev. Johnny Hankins, Rev. Doug McGuire and Father Sebastian. Interment was held at Morris-Hill Cemetery, Boise, Idaho, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Farmerville. Mr. Bernard died Thursday, April 26, 2001 in Farmerville following a brief illness. Mr. Bernard was born in Sioux City, Iowa on August 27, 1923 to Aldoph L. and Flora Searles Bernard. Charles graduated from Elk Point High School before enlisting in the United States Navy. He served aboard the U.S.S. Augusta during World War II. He was in the service for six years, and a Navy boxing champ. Charles was Chief Gunner's Mate when discharged. He attended the University of South Dakota where he played football. On January 1, 1948, he married Arlene Grace Murphy. The couple traveled widely in the pipeline construction industry until Charles retired in 1985. Arlene died May 5, 1987. Charles married Kathleen Baldwin on December 1, 1989. The couple made their home on Lake D'Arbonne. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Bernard of Farmerville, LA; son, Michael Farris Bernard and wife Sheri of Tulsa, OK; daughter, Simonne Bernard deGlee and husband James of Boise, ID; brother, Larry Bernard of Jefferson, SD; grandchildren, Ben Michael deGlee, James Jacob deGlee, Charles Richard Bernard and Flora Lee Bernard; step-son, Bill Baldwin and wife Alexa; step-daughters, Patricia and husband, Dr. Edwin Davis and Kay Lynn and husband Glynn Harris, all of Ruston, LA, step grandchildren, Kim and Kenny Branch, Kelly and David Plunk, Karen Davis, Kathy Davis, Melissa Rodgers and Brian and Tiffany Baldwin; and four step-great grandchildren. # # #
