He lived to be 67 years, 23 days old and died at Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston after a short illness. Services were held at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Fred Wideman presiding on February 1, 2001 at 2: 00 PM interment was held at Ansley Union Church Cemetery in Ansley, LA, under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. After serving in the Unites States Air Force, Joe spent most of his life in law enforcement. He was a Deputy for the Union Parish Sheriffs Office and was the Coordinator for the Union Parish Triad when he died. A mission in his life was working with the Sr. citizens in Union Parish. Music was most important in Joe's life. He organized and managed the "Joe Woods and the Wildwood Express" band in Ruston for ten years and since that time was a member of the "Ain't Misbehaven" band in Ruston. Joe was a devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he sang in the Chancel Choir. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vera Smith Woods and Joseph Freeman Woods; brother, Travis Woods; sister, Mary Helen Parkman; and his son, Noah Woods. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Mary Ann Carson Woods; brothers, Adrian "Red" Woods and his wife Thera, T.R. Woods and his wife Virginia; sisters, Willow Dean Logan, Boyce Weeks and her husband Jimmy; sons, Victor R. Woods and wife Tamara, Jeff Woods and wife Connie, Joseph Shawn Woods, Mike Smith and wife Jo; daughters, Joni Mire, Jackie Denny and Jennifer Trotta; grandchildren, Heather Woods, Amanda Trotta, Garrett Joseph Denny, Breanna Denny and Megan Lebata. He was also loved by his extended family, Mary Eleanor and Robert Temple, Robbie and Hunter Temple, Melanie, Zachary, Ashley and Jeff Zachary and Lisa Carroll. Pallbearers were Sheriff Bob Buckley, Roland Kay, Randall Barron, Robert Dawkins, Pat Latuso, AJ Nugent, Sheriff Wayne Houck and Joe Burton. Honorary pallbearers were the Union Parish Deputies and Triad members. Memorials can be made to Trinity Chancel Choir or Triad of Union Parish. # # #
