Officiating was Dr. Glenn Morgan with Rev. Phillip Smith assisting. Interment followed in Canaan Church Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Bernice. Mrs. Burns went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 28 following a lenghty illness. Mrs. Burns was a member of Canaan Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Louisiana Tech University and was a retired First Grade Teacher of 36 years. Mrs. Emma Lee Burns loved and honored her savior The Lord Jesus Christ, her family , her church and country. She was preceded in death by her husband James L. Burns. She is survived by her daughter, Christy Hatley and husband Joe of Bernice; one son, James Edward Burns and wife Patof ElDorado; two brothers, Kenneth Ushaw of Orange, TX and Jimmy Penton of Spearsville; one sister Mary Gene Rhodes of Spearsville; Three grandchildren, Mark Hatley of Bernice, Emily Adkins of Bastrop, and Lara Burns of ElDorado; and three great granchildren, Jonathon, Bailey and Cody. Pallbearers were: Mark Hatley, Andy Farrar, Jonathon Spears, Ronnie Hall, Steve Lawson, and Terry Burns. Honorary Pallbearers were: Travis Thomas and Austin Thomas. Memorials may be made to Canaan Baptist Church.
