Ward Chevalier. The obit is as copied from the paper. Anchorage Daily News Darla Chevalier Longtime resident and educator DARLA CHEVALIER, 64, died Nov. 19, 2002, at Providence Alaska Medical Center. Her family wrote that she fought "a sudden and courageous battle with cancer, throughout which her continuous attitude and favorite saying was, 'This too shall pass.' Her spirit slipped away peacefully, with her family at her side at 12:25 p.m."A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel, 901 E. Bogard Road in Wasilla. Full-time Latter-day Saints missionaries will act as pallbearers. Flowers would be welcomed and appreciated, especially roses, as they were her favorite flower. A graveside service will follow at Pioneer Cemetery in Palmer. Mrs. Chevalier was born Oct. 26, 1938, in Teague, Texas, to Horace Reginald and Nora Bess Teddlie, by whom she was preceded in death. She moved to Alaska in 1980 with her family. Mrs. Chevalier was a schoolteacher for 33 years, the last 19 of which were in various Bush villages and cities: Glennallen, Fairbanks, Wasilla, Tanana, Fort Yukon, Kake, Sand Point, King Cove and Hydaburg. She also taught for the UAA Rural Extension Department. For the past four years, she was a teacher with the IDEA Home School Program based in the Galena School District. She recently assisted her husband in writing a forthcoming book about his experiences in law enforcement in Alaska titled "One Badge Alone." Her family wrote: "Darla was of a deeply compassionate, soft-spoken and loving spirit of high moral character, a leader, teacher and friend to many. She was a devout and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and lived her life accordingly. She demonstrated tremendous faith and was a shining light of example for all those around her. Her love for her Savior, Jesus Christ, her family and fellow man was endless and unmovable. She will not be far away, yet greatly missed by all those who love her." Mrs. Chevalier is survived by her husband, Larry Foy Chevalier; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and John Fraley; son, Larry Chevalier; brother, Reginald Teddlie; grandchildren, Samantha Kuzakin, Larry Kuzakin, Megan Fraley and Peter Fraley. She anxiously moved to Alaska in 1980 with her husband and their two children and all have remained Alaska residents ever since.
