BIRDIE WELCH CHRISTMAN Services for Birdie Welch Christman, 91, of Ruston were held Saturday, March 15, 2003 at First Baptist Church, Bernice, with Rev. David Weeks officiating. Interment services were in the Marine Cemetery in Marine, Illinois. Funeral services were under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Bernice. Mrs. Christman went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 12, 2003 in Ruston following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Christman was preceded in death by her parents, John Quint and Jennie Lawrence Welch of Weldon community, her husband, Edward Christman, four sisters: Allie Welch Evans, Mary Jane Welch Lee, Eunice Welch and Marjorie Welch; three brothers: Thomas Welch, Milton A. Welch, and Willie A. Welch, Sr.; three nephews: Henry Evans, William Evans, and Frank W. Griffith, Jr. Mrs. Christman was a native of Bernice and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Bernice. She was a former member of Ruston Department Club. She was retired from Boeing (McDonnell Douglas) in St. Louis after 21 years service. Mrs. Christman returned to Bernice in 1963. She is survived by her sister, Evelyn Welch Erb of Bernice, nephew, Willie Welch, Jr. of Bernice; niece, Hazel Welch Craig of Camden, TN; and numerous grand nieces and great grand nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Bernice.
