J. McAdams as principal and Wm. R. Davis his security are held and firmly bound unto Robt. C. Wickiff, Governor of the State of Louisiana for the time being, and his successors in office, in the sum of five hunderd Dollars to the true and faithful payment thereof we bind ourselves, our heirs and assigns on this the 14th day of June A. D. 1856. The condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas the said E. J. McAdams has applied to the Clerk of the said 12th District Court in and for said parish, for license to marry Miss India Sophia Goyne. Now, therefore, if it shall appear that no legal cause exist why said lecense should not be granted and said marriage consumated, the above obligation to be null and void, or else to remain in full force and effect. J. McAdams and India Sophia Goyne of your Parish, and that you perform said act according to the laws and usages of the State of Louisiana, and make return hereof to the office of the Clerk, of the 12th District Court, in and for said Parish, according to law, Given under my hand and seal of office, on this the 14th day of June A. He was wounded during the Battle of Vicksburg during the Civil War and died in a hospital there 1/29/1863. He is buried at the Vicksburg Civil War Cemetery. India Sophia Goyne was born 1840 in Georgia and was the child of Hiram and Susan Goyne. J. T. (James T.) McAdams that performed the ceremony was the father of E. J. McAdams. James T. McAdams was born 1810 in Newberry, SC, the son of Thomas S. and Mary Teague McAdams. James T. McAdams migrated to Shelby Co, AL with family where he married Julia Lawler in 1830. He became an ordained Baptist Minister in Shelby Co., AL. His family migrated to Union Parish, LA around 1847. James T. McAdams was also killed during the Civil War and is believed to be buried somewhere near Spearsville, LA. # # #
