Last Thursday afternoon, Mr. James M. Smith, of Farmerville, and Miss Eva May 
Slaton, of Ruston, were married at the latter place, the ceremony being very 
beautifully and impressively performed by Rev. T. B. White.  The bride is a 
lady of rare musical and literary accomplishments, and her gentle manners and 
noble disposition have won her lasting friendships wherever she is known.  The 
groom was born and reared in our town, and it is needless for us to utter a 
word of commendation in his behalf.  Suffice it to say that as a reward for 
his general popularity and upright character he has held the honorable 
positions of recorder or clerk of court continuously ever since he reached 
manhood's estate.  He is in every respect fully worthy of the great prize he 
has won in the matrimonial market.  Mr. and Mrs. Smith reached their future 
home on Friday afternoon, and in the evening were tendered a beautiful 
serenade by the Farmerville string band.  May the lives of this newly wedded 
couple be as happy and peaceful as the music on that occasion was inspiring 
and sweet.
