All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** The location is North of Kaplan on Hwy 35, to hwy 699, then left on hwy 699 approx 2.3 miles. First gate on right just past bridge. Huge oak in the pasture about 200 yds from road. Cemetery is located beneath that large oak tree. A piece of land from his farm was donated by my grandfather, Numa Mathieu for this cemetery in the late 1800's for family and for public burials. This past weekend I made a trip to this cemetery to try to idenify some of the graves. This is what I found! Information from Wilby Simon and his Wife Babee (Granddaughter of Numa) who lives across the road from this cemetery at 4530 N Hwy 699 have maintained this cemetery for many years. There are approx 30 graves in this cemetery, many have no markings at all. Some are marked but no information on them, the following are the ones that I could Identify. CORMIER, Dolson 1912-1980 CORMIER, Dolli_ ?-? SIMON, Gabrill 1903-1943 BERTRAND, Elizabeth (Simon)- Aug/22/1982 - Mar/18/1915 Sister of Grabrill MATHIEU, Numa 1869-1920 MATHIEU, Nathila (Simon)- No marking, Numa's wife, adjacent to his right Mother of Nathila-no marking, adjacent to her right There are several small crosses under the oak that are unmarked. I remember when I was a child that one of my grandmothers was buried next to this oak but I do not know which one, She was 95 years old and her name was Helene (Trahan) Simon.
