Lake Arthur Area/ Wave Cafe Author: Dana Hudson Date: 8 Aug 2004 7:44 PM GMT Classification: Query Can anyone give me any information about the Wave Cafe that was on the lake at Lake Arthur? I am looking for dates the buisness was established or any history on it, and the owner(s). I understand Augustas Smith owned it at one time and Noah Porter bought it from him, but I don't know when these things occurred. Thanks....Dana....Thudson763@aol.com Vincent Burial Places Author: Denton C. Vincent Date: 1 Aug 2004 6:06 PM GMT Classification: Query I am looking for the burial places for the following people. 1. Pierre Joseph Vincent born Oct. 15, 1748, son of Joseph Vincent and Marie Baudart and husband of Catherine Galmand. May have died in Vermilion Parish. 2. Jean Baptiste Aime Vincent born Sept. 28, 1797, son of Pierre Joseph Vincent and Catherine Galmand and husband of Marie Azelie Julie Hebert. They were married in St. Martin Parish. 3. Pierre Vincent born abt. 1795, son of Pierre Joseph Vincent and Catherine Galmand and husband of Sarah Celeste Ryan. He is thought to have died in Calcasieu Parish. 4. Pierre Valsin Vincent born Abt. 1826, son of Jean Baptiste Aime Vincent and Marie Azelie Julie Hebert and husband of Rosalie Evelina Broussard. He is thought to have died in Cameron Parish, maybe in the Klondike area south of Lake Arthur. If anyone has any information on exact locations it would really be appreciated.. Thanks, Denton Re: Vincent Burial Places Author: Virginia Ashley Date: 17 Oct 2004 11:13 AM GMT Classification: Query THose graves are so old I doubt they are even marked anymore. I've wondered where they are buried myself. When Pierre Joseph Francois Vincent ( b. 1748) died he was buried in what was called St. Martin Parish. I believe Pierre and Sarah Ryan lived around Lake Charles. The may be buried around there somewhere. I dont think anyone alive today knows the exact location of any of them. There is an area known as Vincent Settlement where there were lots of Vincents living. I think it is near Lake Arthur, LA. Possibly still inside the Vermilion Parish line. I've heard people speak of Shell Beach Cemetery where there are Vincents buried, near Lake Arthur. Good luck! Re: Vincent Burial Places Author: Anna Hayes Date: 17 Oct 2004 6:40 PM GMT Surnames: VINCENT, RYAN Classification: Query I am in agreement with Virginia Ashley.....I think most of the graves you seek are much too old to exist anymore. But, unless there is another Vincent Settlement close to Lake Arthur, I think the area you are looking for is south of Sulphur, LA and east of Carlyss, LA close to the Calcasieu River. There was a Pierre VINCENT who owned land in Section 35 of T10S R10W. He owned it with St. Germain ELLENDER (Spelled ELLOUDEN in land records), having acquired it in 1846. I believe he was the one married to Sarah RYAN. M.C.Bolling, Mrs.E.L. Bolling, Vermilion Parish mystery Author: Peggy Edwards Date: 20 Jul 2004 8:47 PM GMT Surnames: Bolling Classification: Query I have quite a mystery on my hands. I have a 1910 Outing magazine-on it is written "Vermilion, LA.,my home- M.C.Bolling,", I also have 6 'Kodaks' dated 1925 of a home in a bayou- written on it is"Mrs. E.L. Bolling, 1018 Floyd Ave.,Richmond,Va.,a 1929 map of Louisana issued by the Dept. of Agriculture and Immigration,1929 book- Louisana The Gates Ajar, Dept. of Ag and Immigration, a copy of The Metronome-Boston, 1871,a copy of The Leader, Boston, June 1885, and 2 newspaper clippings about Hurricane Hilda hitting Louisana in Oct. 1964. Anybody recognize anything? Re: M.C.Bolling, Mrs.E.L. Bolling, Vermilion Parish mystery Author: Virginia Ashley Date: 17 Oct 2004 11:24 AM GMT Classification: Query I remember hurrcane Hilda in 1964. I was 9 years old. The name Bolling is only vaguely familiar. Maybe the Bollings were living in southwest Louisiana when Hilda hit. They may have moved from Boston to LA and had relatives in Richmond, VA Perhaps a Richmond city directory of 1925 might shed some light. Newspapers of that year....Richmond must have an historical society that may have something about some Bollings that lived in that area. 1910 census of Vermilion Parish may list some Bollings also. I'd checkthe 1930 census also. How did you come to posses these articles? ARe the Bolling family your kin? Re: M.C.Bolling, Mrs.E.L. Bolling, Vermilion Parish mystery Author: Peggy Edwards Date: 17 Oct 2004 1:50 AM GMT Classification: Query I came to own these items in the most odd way- my dad has an auto repair shop in downtown Richmond, and a man named Willie used to run errands for him back in the 1960's. He was an elderly black man who was retired from the railroad as a conductor. Willie gave dad a bag of papers, maps, and magazines one day out of the blue,& recently, my dad just decided to just give them to me. I am trying to figure out the connection between Willie and the Bollings. My thought is to piece together this puzzle. You're right, though, I need to now research more about the Bolling's here in Richmond. Thanks for your interest and your reply. God bless! Re: M.C.Bolling, Mrs.E.L. Bolling, Vermilion Parish mystery Author: Maude Ann Gilmore Date: 17 Oct 2004 2:22 PM GMT Classification: Query I apologize if this is a repeat post. The only descendant I know of is Thomas Winston Bolling, b. Feb. 1893. According to the 1930 census, Thomas was living with his parents in Richmond and was single. Mary Celeste (Winston) Bolling was born Feb. 9, 1867 at Rose Bower Plantation, Vermilion Parish, LA. Parents of Mary Celeste were Thomas Scott Winston and Mary Celeste (Moss) Rose. Mary Moss was first married to David Crawley Rose. I have additional information on the ancestors that I will gladly share if it will help in your search. Please keep me in mind if you have contact with descendants of the Bolling family. Thanks-- Maude Ann Re: M.C.Bolling, Mrs.E.L. Bolling, Vermilion Parish mystery Author: Peggy Edwards Date: 17 Oct 2004 1:59 AM GMT Classification: Query Thank you for your information, and I will contact you if I find any Bollings or their kin. I suspect that I will not. I get a feeling that their son,Thomas never married. Now I don't know that, but I posted a query on the Richmond board, too, and I have not had any replys at all. I want to find out the connection between the Bollings and Willie Jones, who is now deceased, he was a retired conductor for the railroad back in the sixties. He worked for my dad part time, here in Rihcmond, and one day out of the blue, he just handed my dad this bag of papers and maps, and magazines all about the Bollings and Vermillion, LA. So I have been trying to figure out the connection. Plus, I firgure if I find a descendant, they might like to have this stuff. It's quite a mystery. thank you for your help, and God Bless! Re: M.C.Bolling, Mrs.E.L. Bolling, Vermilion Parish mystery Author: Maude Ann Gilmore Date: 17 Oct 2004 2:23 AM GMT Classification: Query That is quite a mystery. I know of no connection to any Joneses back in LA. If you do not find any descendants and are looking for a good home for the papers and maps, perhaps you might consider donating them to the library in Abbeville, Vermilion Parish, LA or to the Vermilion Historical Society. If you would like to contact me off-list, my addy is . Maude Ann Re: M.C.Bolling, Mrs.E.L. Bolling, Vermilion Parish mystery Author: Virginia Ashley Date: 18 Oct 2004 12:44 PM GMT Classification: Query I had a thought...maybe Mrs Bolling living here sent the newspaper clipping of hurricane Hilda to a relative in Richmond. I think I'd like to check the Vermilion Parish census of 1910 and see who the Bollings were here. I'm almost sure our library has that year. If not it would be a while before I could check. Do you have a subscription to the census online? I dont or I'd check there right now! I love a mystery! I agree with the person who posted the other reply. If you find no connection to the Bolling family, a donation to the Historical Society would be a great idea. Re: M.C.Bolling, Mrs.E.L. Bolling, Vermilion Parish mystery Author: Dana Hudson Date: 18 Oct 2004 1:35 PM GMT Classification: Query Hi.....I'm jumping in here.....I checked Ancestry Census Index for you.....I could NOT find a Bolling using exact spelling or soundex in Vermilion Parish in any year. The closest I found was in St. Mary in like 1860. There weren't many with the exact spelling in any year and they were primarily in the New Orleans area or in North LA. However....I did find in the Vermilion Parish History Book I, pg. 315, within the story of Thomas Scott Winston and Mary Celeste Moss is a sentence that says: "Mary Celeste Winston married Ernest Bolling and settled in Richmond, Virginia." Perhaps this is info you already had, I couldn't tell. So that would give you people ties between Richmond and Vermilion. Mary Celeste had siblings, perhaps you can find some of their descendents. Perhaps Ernest Bolling had siblings. Mary Celeste's siblings remained in Louisiana according to the article in the Vermilion Parish History Book. Good Luck!! Re: M.C.Bolling, Mrs.E.L. Bolling, Vermilion Parish mystery Author: Virginia Ashley Date: 18 Oct 2004 2:19 AM GMT Classification: Query I have no ties to the Bolling family...as far as I know. My only link is that I live in Vermilion Parish and love a good mystery. Now and then I come to the Vermilion Parish board to see if there's anyone I can help. I was thinking that M.C. Bolling and Mrs. E. L. Bolling were either sisters- in-law or something like that. If M.C. Bolling was Mary Celeste Winston Bolling, then Mrs. E. L. Bolling could be her mother-in-law or sister-in- law. Anyway, it's avery interesting story. No, I didnt already have that info, thanks!! Re: M.C.Bolling, Mrs.E.L. Bolling, Vermilion Parish mystery Author: Peggy Edwards Date: 18 Oct 2004 5:32 PM GMT Classification: Query You all are so wonderful in helping me with this mystery! I promise to keep everyone posted as soon as I discover anything new. I am going to try to go to the Virginia State Library this week with all of this new info you've given to me and see what I can find out. The idea about donating these materials to the Vermillion Historical Society sounds like the right idea! Then if there are any relatives alive, they can at least view these items, and the papers will be safe in the meantime. Great suggestion! -Peggy Re: M.C.Bolling, Mrs.E.L. My Grandfather, Willie Stakes (later Stokes) was born there in 1907. She was married 7 times to 5 men and would "divorce" them by firing at them with her revolver. Her Mother was a Mouton or a Broussard, but she was a descendant of Marin Mouton, her uncle (or brother, not sure) was Hebert Mouton, when he died it was not in the good grace of the church so he was denied a funeral, and from what I understand he did not like banks and buried all his money on his land.
