Author: Liz Petry Date: 14 Dec 1999 12:00 PM Surnames: PETRY, DAVID, MOORE Dear Ms. Moore, Thank you ever so much for putting Vermilion Parish into the GenWeb Project. I have found out much about my father George PETRY's family. He lost his mother when he was tiny and left Louisiana at 14 to attend high school in New York, so he knows little of his roots. Both his parents, WALTER PETRY and ADELAIDE DAVID, grew up in Abbeville and later lived in New Iberia. Walter was related (I believe) to a family named MOORE. We had a cousin GRACE MOORE who moved to Los Angeles (50?) years ago. Her sister's name was FLORENCE BROADNAX, and she moved to Beaumont, Texas. I'm slowly assembling information on my DAVID roots and trying to locate the Petry roots. If you are related, or know of any of my relatives, I'd be deeply greatful to learn of them. As I gain more information, I will certainly post it. Thank you, Liz Petry Name's Search Author: Denton Vincent Date: 7 Dec 1999 12:00 PM Surnames: Nunez I am looking for information on Celestin Nunez born May 20, 1806, died June 6, 1869 in Vermilion Parish, La. Barbara Madame Leon Leblanc Author: Debra Perry Abshire Date: 10 Jun 1999 12:00 PM Surnames: Gaspard, Trahan, Simon, Royer, Perry, Guidry, Morine, Plaisance, Nunez My great-grandmother was Celiva Miller, married first to Ogea Royer, and second, to Leon Leblanc. Celiva and Ogea had two children: Doralis and Leon. After her divorce to Ogea Royer, Celiva moved to Lake Arthur, La. She re- married shortly after to Leon Leblanc. Celiva was a practicing mid-wife in the Jefferson Davis Parish area. She was also known as a "treatise," one who would treat the sick with special prayers. The descendants of Celiva Leblanc would like to hear from anyone who may have a story to tell us about our grandmother/great-grandmother. We are asking that you look at your birth certificate or the birth certificate of your parents. 'Mama' had to sign all birth certicates, but since she could not write, she would make her mark (x) and someone would sign for her. Please take the time to look through your records. My mother, Dorothy Gaspard, signed many of those birth certificates for her grandmother. The signature would read, "Mrs. Leon Leblanc by Dorothy Gaspard." To contact my mother, please call her at her home in Lake Arthur. All others may send email to the address shown. We appreciate your interest! Debra Gaspard Perry The Louisiana Connection Location of Ancestors Author: Margie Wiggins-Jackson Date: 9 Jun 1999 12:00 PM Surnames: WALKER, GILL, WIGGINS, WALLACE, MARION I'm searching for the place my dad was born and possibly where my gg grandparents WALKER are buried. Some WIGGINS, GILL, WALKER - and possibly WALLACE and MARION family members went from Leake Co., MS to LA around 1900. My dad and his immediate family, as well as others, are found on the 1910 Vermilion Pa. census. My dad, Noel Bascomb WIGGINS, b. 1909, son of Robert Bruce and Annie Belle (Gill) WIGGINS says that he was born and lived for several years in Wright, LA. He said, "the town was Wright but the post office was Hair." I don't find either of these listed as a town on the current LA map. Can anyone help me on that? One reason for wanting to know is that he remembers his g grandparents, John A. and Frances Adaline WALKER and remembers that "Grandmaw WALKER" lived with them for a time. I haven't been able to find a record of them on a census, their deaths, or where they are buried. It could be that he died before 1810 and she was living with another family member at that time. Since she was born in 1825, it would be likely that she died before 1820. Other family members later moved to Acadia Pa. and many, including John Jonathan and Mary A. (WALKER) GILL are buried in Jennings. Does anyone have a connection to these families. I've traced the other ancestors back a pretty good distance but haven't managed to get beyond John A. and Frances A. WALKER. Does anyone know where "Wright" or "Hair", Vermilion Pa. might have been? Margie Wiggins-Jackson WIGGINS, GILL, WALKER, ETC. Author: Margie Wiggins-Jackson Date: 9 Jun 1999 12:00 PM Surnames: WIGGINS, GILL, WALKER Sorry, the paragraph about "Grandmaw WALKER" should read: One reason for wanting to know is that he remembers "Grandmaw WALKER", Frances Adaline, wife of John A. Isaac and Susan Cain Author: Ricky Cain Date: 16 Feb 1999 12:00 PM Surnames: Cain I'm looking for information about Isaac Cain's family. Who is his father? Where did they come from? I believe Isaac was born in Florida around 1839. His mother, Ellen, was born around 1800 in North Carolina. Her maiden name may be Clark. Isaac met and married Susan Ritter (born abt 1852) in Texas around 1867. They had one son, Adram, there, then moved to Louisiana where Susan gave birth to six more children: Tonlouis, Patric, Richard, Ellen, Robert, Isaac, Jr. (I am not sure about the spelling of these names. It is difficult to read from the 1880 census. Tonlouis may be Jonlouis. Adram could be Abram. etc. I believe my family was illiterate.) During the time of the 1880 census (Vermillion Parish, 4th Ward), Isaac's mother was living with them and is listed as Ellen C. Clark. Ellen's parents are listed as being born in Virginia. If you have any more information, I would love to hear from you. I would also be happy to share any information that I have. Ricky L.
