A resident of Abbeville, Ms. Batiste died Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. She is survived by her son, Herbert Butcher; a daughter, Mary B. Campbell both of Abbeville; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Ms. Batiste was preceded in death by her parents, Michelle and Mary Levine Batiste; six brothers; three sisters; and a son-in-law, Rev. LCAP 11/01/05 LAKE ARTHUR — Funeral service for Mrs. MayBelle Hungerford Benoit, 91, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, from Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. The Rev. Clyde Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in Shell Beach Cemetery under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Lake Arthur. Visitation is noon-10 p.m. today, with rosary at 7 p.m. by the Rev. Francis Appuhamy and from 7 a.m. Wednesday, in the funeral home. Mrs. Benoit died at 10:20 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, in Jennings American Legion Hospital. Native of Gueydan, she was a resident of Lake Arthur since 1940. She was a homemaker with great cooking skills and an excellent seamstress. Her main hobbies were traveling, gardening and dancing. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and was selected Mother of the Year in 1979. She was a very faithful person and practiced her Catholic faith very devoutly. She was a member of Catholic Daughters and Ladies Altar Society; former member of Cameron Parish Home Demonstration Club; former president of the FFA Mother’s Club; and former cafeteria manager of the Lake Arthur and Goretti Catholic schools. Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Adeline and Robert Chapman of Lake Arthur, Viola Mary and Alan Cucullu of Portland, Tenn., Helen Jane and Luther Dupuis of Lake Charles, and Loretta Ann Godwin of Ovilla, Texas; five sons and daughters-in-law, Vance Jr. and Glenda Benoit of Houston, and Joseph Dale and Florence Benoit, Harold James and Betty Benoit, Michael W. and Cindy Benoit, and Francis and Ethel Benoit, all of Lake Arthur; three sisters, Mildred Benoit of Lake Charles, Doris Horelica of Cameron, Texas, and Eildred Boudreaux of New Iberia; 39 grandchildren; and 75 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Benoit was preceded in death by her parents, Saul and Lucile Dugas Hungerford; her husband of 48 years, Vance Benoit Sr.; one son, John Preston Benoit; two grandchildren, Patrick Cucullu and Tanette Rae Benoit; two great-grandchildren, Trent Whitmore and Tyler Vance Quintero; one daughter-in-law, Patsy Benoit; three brothers, Alton, Earl and LeeRay Hungerford; and two sisters, Goldie Faulk and Juanita Brandon. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph LeJeune and Alice Hines; her stepfather, Fabian Nolan; her husband, Austin "Buck" Bertrand; one brother, Franklin Nolan, two sisters, Phalia Saltzman and Nola Trahan.
