Michael C. Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visiting hours will be observed Monday from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. and will resume Tuesday at 8 a.m. until the time of service at C.M. Butler Funeral Home. A resident of Abbeville, Ms. Robinson died at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, at the Rehab Hospital of Acadiana in Lafayette. C.M. Butler Funeral Home of Abbeville is in charge of the arrangements. ROMERO, Newton LCAP 08/26/05 May 16, 1919-Aug. 22, 2005 KAPLAN — A Mass of Christian burial will be at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 26, 2005, from Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Newton “Black” Romero, 86, who died Monday, Aug. 22, 2005, at The Guardian House in Lake Charles. He will be laid to rest in Kaplan Cemetery with the Vermilion Honor Guard performing military honors. The Rev. William Rogalla will officiate. Serving as pallbearers will be Burt Hoffpauir, Charles Bourque, Marion “Butch” Romero, Gordon Romero, Keith Romero and Eddie Rising. He was born and raised in Kaplan. He graduated from Kaplan High School, then began working for Western Union until he enlisted in the Army, where he served the country during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He returned to Kaplan as a telegraph operator with Western Union until he began his career in the finance business. He owned and operated Kaplan Loan & Investment Company until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of American Legion Arthur A. LeJeune Jr. and Noel J. Boudreaux Post 271, Veterans of Foreign Wars Guidry-Hebert Post 3793, Knights of Columbus Council 2913, Kaplan Lions Club, Kaplan Jaycees and Krewe of Chic-a-la-Pie. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Ruth Romero of Kaplan; two sons, Daniel N. Romero of Lafayette and Timothy J. Romero and his wife, Ann, of Charleston, S.C.; one daughter, Jill R. Smitherman and her husband, John, of Houston; one brother, Edwin Romero and his wife, Jane, of Lake Charles; one sister, Marie “Tit” Bourque and her husband, Ivan, of Kaplan; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 30 years, Annie Williams Romero; parents, Theobert and Artemise Abshire Romero; brothers, Ralph, Ewing “Tony” and Ray Romero; sister, Mamie Romero Broussard; oldest grandson, Blaine Romero; and daughter-inlaw, Ethel Trahan Romero. For those preferring memorials, contributions may be made in his memory to the little league of choice.
