The Rev. Mitchell Guidry will officiate. He was a native and resident of Gueydan. He was a graduate of USL and a licensed practical nurse for the last 20 years, dedicating his life to caring for the elderly. He was employed at Morris Lahasky Nursing Center. He had a great love for his occupation and the many residents that became part of his family. Survivors include two uncles, Edward G. Saal Sr. and his wife, Dolores, of Gueydan, and Felix A. Nordyke of Willows, Calif.; and one aunt, Theresa Saal Azbell and her husband, Robert, of Lake Charles. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isidore Philip Saal Jr. and Dorothy Nordyke Saal. A2 Margaret Bonin Schindler, 81, of Lake Charles, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, in a local hospital. Born in Gueydan, she lived most of her life in Lake Charles. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. She is survived by one daughter, Sara Smith and her husband, Powell, of Lake Charles; one son, Stephen Charles Schindler and his wife,, Jodie,, of Lake Charles; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, E.C. "Chuck" Schindler. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28, from Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Monsignor Harry Greig will officiate. Herb Bennerfield officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery. Visiting hours were observed Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. at Vincent Funeral Home. Visitation will resume today at 9 a.m. until the time of service. Mr. Sellers died Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at a Lafayette hospital. Louis was an avid gardener and his favorite past time was playing boree’. He retired after 25 years with the State of Louisiana and is a member of the Retired State Employees Organization. He is survived by his two sons, Carroll Sellers and wife Rexine of New Iberia and Nolan Sellers and wife Carliss; three daughters, Gerdy Duhon and husband Leroy “Pemon”, Betty Sellers all of Abbeville, and Gloria Huffman and husband Frank of Scott; a sister, Mrs. Clovis “Nellie” Trahan of Milton; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Sellers was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Trahan Sellers; parents, Odeall Sellers and Elda Vice Sellers; grandmother who raised him from birth, Palmier Talbert; four brothers, Oleus, Luma, Norbert and Julian Sellers; four sisters, Julie S. The Daily Iberian : New Iberia, LA 12/06/2005 ABBEVILLE — A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Stella Marie Sellers, the former Rita Mae Sellers, 78, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery. Visiting hours will be observed Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service with a rosary being recited at 9:30 a.m. by the Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the church. A native and resident of Abbeville, Sister Stella died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2005, at Eastridge Nursing Home. Sister Stella Marie was born in Abbeville on Feb. 8, 1927 to Nickolas Sellers and Stella Marie Theall, and the fourth of eight children. She entered the congregation of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on Jan. 30, 1943 and received the habit of the Sisters of Mount Carmel on Aug. 3, 1943. On Aug. 2, 1945, she made her first profession and pronounced perpetual vows on Aug. 3, 1948. She attended Mount Carmel Elementary School in Abbeville and Mount Carmel Academy in New Orleans class of 1945, Mount Carmel Normal and St. Mary’s Dominican College in New Orleans. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette in Home Economics. Sister Stella Marie also attended the University of Mississippi, Oregon State University and the University of Wyoming. Sister Stella Marie taught Conferternity of Christian Doctrine classes to public school children, elementary and high school in Abbeville, Carencro, Lafayette, New Iberia, Rayne and Westwego for more than 30 years. Until her death her current ministry included visiting nursing homes, the sick and the dying. She also made crafts and alterations for the people in the Abbeville area where she resided. Sister Stella Marie a Sister of Mount Carmel, retired teacher and was in her 60th year of religious profession. She is survived by her three sisters, Ouida Sellers Broussard, Paula Sellers Guidry of Abbeville and Charlotte Sellers Meaux of Lafayette; and a brother, Harold Sellers of Abbeville. Sister Stella Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Nickolas Sellers and Stella Marie Theall; a brother, George Sellers; and two sisters, Yvonne Sellers Bodin and Marie Sellers. A3 GUEYDAN — A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in First United Methodist Church for F.T. Smith Jr., 84, who died Monday Oct. 10, 2005, in his residence. Mr. Smith was a native and resident of Gueydan. He served in the Air Force in World War II. He was a carpenter and a retired farmer, and he also worked at the Klondike Pump and made the parts when it broke down. He designed a wooden xylophone for USL. He will always be remembered as a loving husband and a wonderful father. He and his wife celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in May. Their children, as well as their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, will fondly remember their dad, grandfather and greatgrandfather as the man whom they thought could do anything. Survivors include his wife, Martha Pond Smith of Gueydan; five sons, Fisk T. Smith III and wife Kathy of Boise, Idaho, James E. Smith and wife Denise of Lafayette, Ind., Leo P. STEWART, Hilda Crowley Post January 2005 GUEYDAN - Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005 at Matthews and Son Funeral Chapel for Hilda Stewart, 77, who died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004 at Lafayette General Hospital. Interment was in Hanks Cemetery in Morse. Reverend Mitchell Guidry conducted the service. A native of Morse and a resident of Gueydan, Mrs. Stewart was a retired telephone operator of 25 years. Her hobbies were crocheting and crossword puzzles. Survivors include four sons, Robert Stewart and wife Maureen and Donald Stewart and wife Peggy, both of Houston; Ronald Stewart and wife Donna of Lafayette; Curtis Dale Stewart of Hawaii; four daughters, Leola Mae Boone of Opelousas; Yvonne Potier and husband Wilson of Gueydan; Renella “Annie” Finn and husband James of Winnie, Texas; Katherine Martin and her husband David of Broussard; two sisters, Virgie Chaisson of Jennings; Mary Jane Aucoin of Beaumont, Texas; 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Domelle and Marilla LaVergne Richard; her first husband, James Stewart; her second husband, Isaac Gotreaux; one son, Walter Stewart; one son-in-law, Hilden Boone; one brother, Clarence Richard and two brothers-in-law, Isaac Aucoin and Harris Chaisson.
