Vincent, 83, died at 3:10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 2005, in a Baytown, Texas, hospital. Crawford Vincent was born Oct. 4, 1921, in Gueydan. His father, David Vincent, was an old-time fiddler and played for house dances many years ago in Vermilion Parish. Crawford began his musical career at the age of 18, playing with the Hackberry Ramblers as a drummer and vocalist. He played drums, guitar and fiddle and performed vocals. Among well-known bands, he played for Leo Soileau, Harry Choates, Cliff Bruner, Abe Manuel Sr., Iry LeJeune, Sidney Brown, Joe Bonsall, August Broussard, J.B. Fuselier and Marie Falcon. He has performed at the World’s Fair, Nashville’s Fan Fair, Cajun Festival in Lafayette, and Liberty Theatre in Eunice. He was a member of the Louisiana Hall of Fame and also has an exhibit in the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tenn. Survivors include his son, the Rev. Rod Vincent of Dayton, Texas; one sister, Rose Flossie Carter of Creole; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lou Ethel; and son, Fredrick James. His funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. today, Aug. 15, in Hixson Funeral Home Chapel of Lake Charles. The Revs. Joe Granberry and Gene Summers will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home.
