All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** LINSCOMBE, Viola Leach LCAP 02/27/2006 GUEYDAN — Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church of Gueydan for Viola Leach Linscombe, 81, who died Saturday, Feb. 25, at Lafayette General Medical Center. Interment will be in Gueydan Cemetery. The Rev. Kemper Smith will conduct the service. Viola was born Jan. 14, 1925, in Bellwood. She graduated from Provencal High School as class salutatorian in 1941 and from Spencer Business College in Baton Rouge. There, she met her husband- to-be at the Old Field House at LSU. They were married in Lawton, Okla., on Oct. 16, 1943. After the war, Viola and Robert eventually moved to Gueydan, where they lived until their deaths. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Gueydan, where she served as church treasurer for many years, and with her husband as adult sponsors of the MYF. She helped charter the Girl Scout Brownie Troop 57 in Gueydan, was a Cub Scout den mother, and was active in all Gueydan High School activities, where her husband served as principal. She worked for the Louisiana State Board of Health at the Gueydan Health Unit for 25 years and was a member of the United Methodist Women, Les Dames des Gueydan and GALA. She was treasurer of the Allen Doss Martin House Foundation and an active member of Gueydan Methodist Bible Study for many years. Viola and her husband traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico as RVers, where they made many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert Linscombe of Gueydan; her parents, Zelma Moss Leach and Thomas Alvin Leach; a brother, Ray Leach of Natchitoches; and a sister, Mrs. Tommie Bryant of Ripley, Miss. Survivors include two sons, Greg Linscombe and his wife, Ruth,, of Gueydan, and Steve Linscombe and his wife, Judy, of Crowley; a daughter, Pamela Linscombe Williams and her husband, Bill, of Tallulah; eight grandchildren, Chas Linscombe of New Orleans, Jeb Linscombe of Lake Arthur, Thea Linscombe of Lafayette, Sarah Williams Whitman of Rayville, Jonathan Williams of Ruston, Seth Linscombe of Lake Arthur, Ryan Linscombe and Darian Linscombe of Crowley; and three sisters, Mrs. Letha Griffin and Mrs. Auty Platt, both of Lake Charles, and Mrs. Elsie Cook of Bellwood. The family has requested that visitation be 2-9 p.m. today and continue from 8 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Thomas Dietz, Trevor Hair, Scott Hair, Patrick Hair, Robert Wayne Hackett and Sandy Pinkard. Memorial contributions in Viola’s name may be made to the Gueydan First United Methodist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Matthews and Son Funeral Home of Gueydan. LOUNSBERRY, Yvette B. LCAP 09/24/2006 Oct. 26, 1921-Sept. 22,, 2006 GUEYDAN — A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, from St. Peter Catholic Church honoring the life of Yvette Broussard Lounsberry, 94. She died Friday, Sept. 22, in her residence. She will be laid to rest in Gueydan Cemetery. The Rev. Mitchell Guidry will officiate. She is survived by three sons, Larry Breaux and wife Edna of Lake Charles, Sandy Breaux and wife Peggy of Gueydan and Rod Leleaux and wife Anna of Church Point; one daughter, Juanette B. Belaire of Gueydan; one stepdaughter, Murdie and husband Allen Plaisance of Gueydan; two brothers, Rauol Broussard and wife Mildred of Gueydan and Bennet Broussard and wife Janelle of Kaplan; one sister, Joyce Duhon of Gueydan; nine grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; 12 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreatgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleveland Leleaux; one son, Tillman Breaux; grandchild, Russell Chris Belaire; one sister, Mable Broussard; and parents, Obrey Broussard and the former Rosa Vincent.
