His funeral will be at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 3, in Matthews and Son Funeral Home of Gueydan. Burial will be in Gueydan Cemetery. MEAUX, Ducy LCAP 05/07/2006 Aug. 17, 1936-May 5, 2006 GUEYDAN — A Mass of Christian burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2006, from St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Mrs. Steven (Ducy) Meaux, 69. She died Friday, May 5, in Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital. She will be laid to rest in Gueydan Cemetery with the Rev. Mitchell Guidry officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Steven Paul Meaux, Bryce Meaux, Jonathon Meaux, Scott Meaux, Paul Meaux and Wilmer “Pookie” Broussard. Mrs. Meaux was a devout Catholic and a devoted wife and mother. She was a native of Gueydan and lived there most of her life, only residing in Lake Charles for a short time. Several years ago she worked as a nurse in Gueydan at the American Legion Hospital and at Acadia Hospital in Crowley. She was active in Little League baseball, where she was the scorekeeper. She loved to bake, cook and spend time with family. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Steven P. Meaux of Gueydan; two sons, Scott Meaux and wife Cassie of Lake Charles and Paul Meaux and wife Kim of Lake Arthur; grandchildren, Steven Paul, Bryce, Matthew, Stephanie, Haleigh, Theresa, Lilly and Kayli Rae Meaux; great-grandson, Hayden Jon Meaux; one brother, Wilmer “Pookie” Broussard and wife Jeanette of Moss Bluff; and one sister, Louella and husband Floyd Saltzman Jr. of Gueydan. She was preceded in death by two sons, Arnold Walter Meaux and Steven Jules Meaux; and her daughter, Stephanie Meaux. He graduated from LaGrange High School in 1977. He attended McNeese State University, and he worked as a firefighter at the Lake Charles Fire Department. He was an umpire for LHSAA softball and baseball. He won numerous awards and championships in arm wrestling. He is survived by his parents, Steven and Honora Meaux of Gueydan; two brothers, Scott Meaux and wife Cassie of Lake Charles and Paul D. Meaux and wife Kim of Lake Arthur; his nephews, Jonathon, Steven Paul, Brice and Matthew Meaux; his nieces, Stephanie, Haleigh, Theresa, Lilly and Kali Rae Meaux; and one great-nephew, Hayden Jon Meaux. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, in Abbeville, with the Rev. Gayle Nunez as the Celebrant. Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park. A gathering of family and friends will be observed from 2:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. today at David Funeral Home, in Abbeville. Born Jan. 25, 1919, in Port Arthur, Mr. Melancon is the son of Alexis and Eva Comeaux Melancon. A retired carpenter, he proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, making clocks and rosaries, and was a member of the Abbeville American Legion. Survivors include his son, John Melancon and wife, Sherry, of Lafayette; daughter, Connie Hasemann, of Abbeville; half-sisters, Peggy Dartez, of Kaplan, and Henrietta Couvillion, of Abbeville; grandchildren, Martin Hasemann, of Wellington, Ohio, Ross Melancon, of Erath, Seth Melancon, of Lafayette, Sharae Cropper, of Lafayette; and great-grandchildren, Frances Anne Hasemann, Kaine Melancon and Zane Melancon.
