A native of Gueydan, she had lived in Lafayette for 33 years prior to moving to Lake Charles in 1998. She was a graduate of Gueydan High School. The body was donated to medical education and research. Visitation is from 5:30 p.m. Monday. Mr. Abshire died at 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in a local hospital. A native of Kaplan, he had lived in Lake Charles for most of his life. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in World War II. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, where he received the medal for devoted service from Bishop Jude Speyrer for his volunteer work. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Area Local 914 and of Companions of Honor. Survivors include one son, Wayne Abshire of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Mrs. George (Suzanne) McCall of Lake Charles and Mrs. Guy (Valerie) Bowmaster of Havelock, N.C.; four grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. She was an accomplished seamstress and a homemaker. He was a native of Vermilion Parish and had lived in Lake Charles for more than 50 years. He lived in Grand Lake for seven years before moving to Kaplan two years ago. He was a retired painting contractor. He was the former president of the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America and a member of Painters Local 783. He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. He was a member and former Grand Knight of St. Margaret’s Knights of Columbus Council 3208 and a member of Monsignor Cramer’s Assembly of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a charter member of the St. Mary of the Lake Knights Columbus Council. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of W.B. Williamson Post 1 of the American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Ruby A.
