Father LaForest Passes Away

Dies After Lingering Illness of Many Months -- Will Be Buried in the New 
Catholic Cemetery Today.

Father F.A.B. LaForest died at his home in this city Thursday afternoon at 1:47 
o'clock, after a lingering illness and considerable suffering.

Yesterday afternoon at about 3 o'clock his remains were conveyed to the Catholic 
Church, where they were held until 9 o'clock this morning. Interment was made in 
the new Catholic cemetery.

Father LaForest was aged 60 years, 3 months and 17 days.

The Father came to this place some fifteen years ago, and was the rector of the 
Catholic Church up to some few months ago, when he decided that his health did 
not permit him to continue the rector-ship of the church and resigned.

During his stay here the Father had made many good friends, and through his 
energetic efforts built the church which stands today, in place of the one which 
was burned down some few years ago. The new church is a monument to the town of 
Abbeville, being very large and commodious, although the Father never lived to 
see the large church finished, as there is some amount of the finishing work to 
be done on the inside.

The Father was very much liked by all who knew him, and his passing away leaves 
a vacancy that can never be filled. The Progress joins with his many friends in 
extending sympathy to the bereaved family.

Father LeForest leaves one brother, Mr. Pierre LaForest, of Joliet, Canada, and 
one sister, Mrs. L.J.N. Lacasse, of this city, and a large number of nephews and 
nieces.
