Prominent Citizen of Esther Called By Death.

Mr. S. R. Rice, a prominent and life-long citizen of Vermilion parish died at 
his home in Esther, on Friday, Nov. 24, at 2:00 o'clock a.m., aged 59 years, 7 
months and 23 days. The funeral will take place this afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, 
from his late residence to the Catholic Church at Bancker. Interment will be 
made in the Bancker Catholic Cemetery.

He is survived by his widow, six sisters: Miss Cornelia Rice, of Oberlin; Mrs. 
O.A. Perry, (May), of Orange, Texas; Mrs. Duff, (Mattie) of Reedley, Calif.; 
Mrs. Wm. Hall, (Daisy) of Oberlin, La.; Mrs. Varnum Hall, (Verda) of Nona, 
Texas; Mrs. Louis Abadie, (Lillie) of Abbeville; Four brothers: Terrel, of 
Nederland, Texas; Theodore, of Oberlin, La.; and Perry and Len, of Los Angeles, 
Calif..

He was a man of many sterling qualities and to vice in any form he wes [sic] a 
stranger. He lived the greater portion of his life within the borders of his 
native parish, and was highly respected and honored by all who knew him. His 
death leaves a vacancy in his community which cannot well be filled.

His many sincere and admiring friends join with the Meridional in expressions of 
sincere sympathy for the bereaved ones in their dark hour of sorrow.

The funeral arrangements were in charge of Brourque & Brasseaux, undertakers.
