Mr. Ludwig Sokoloski's Obit and Annotations by Ken Dupy Vermilion Parish, Louisiana ********************************************** Copyright. He is now up and about as usual.” Let me introduce you to L. Sokoloski. Ludwig Sokoloski married one of Solomon Wise's daughters in 1879. In 1894, Solomon turned over the new building--now housing Black's Restaurant, and previously Landry's--to his son Eli and to Ludwig. They formed the company Eli Wise & Co. which they ran until Eli's death in 1907. At that time the business became the L. & M. Sokoloski Co., the M being Maxie, Ludwig's son. This business continued until Ludwig's death in 1920. Maxie had died in 1916. Ludwig and his son were two of several individuals who invested in Abbeville's first light and power plant in 1902. Ludwig became its first president. It was not until 1906, I believe, that the city bought the plant and began furnishing municipally- supplied electricity. Karl Weill, an attorney in Abbeville, is one of his direct descendants.
