After the death of Elizabeth Boyd, Andrew married second, Eliza Jane Franklin 18 Jun 1919. He and Elizabeth Boyd are buried in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Cora (Vernon), LA. Although Andrew Jackson Boyd was only 17 years old in 1869, he was listed as a charter member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church. Two years later, he married the deacon's daughter, and Elizabeth joined Laurel Hill on 22 Mar 1879. Sometime after this date, A.J. and Elizabeth Boyd left the Laurel Hill Church to join with Big Spring Church, however, on 29 August 1885, they both returned to fellowship with Laurel Hill. On 10 Jul 1886, A.J. Boyd was authorized to preach the gospel, as recorded in the church minutes. After this time, there were several entries in the church minutes where A.J. Boyd preached the sermon in the absence of the regular minister. In addition to being named delegate and associate delegate to represent Laurel Hill Baptist Church at the annual Missionary Baptist Associational meetings, he was also elected to serve treasurer on 22 Jul 1888. The obituary for A.J. Boyd, Sr., gave testimony of his Christian character: "...The deceased was a devoted husband, loyal and loving father, unretired Christian, and had been a consistant member of the Missionary Baptist Church for forty-one years. He was a member of the Anacoco Baptist Church at his death. He was a law-abiding citizen, rearing a large family to be grown, battling through life with them to be useful men and women without even a lawsuit, or ever appearing as a witness in any court of his country. Always met you with a smile, kind word, and good cheer for all. The deceased was a dear lover of music, especially the violin, winning several prizes at the different Fiddlers' Contests. Twelve hours before his death, he requested his nurse, Miss Rosa Douglas, of Shreveport, Louisiana, and his baby son, Andrew Jackson Boyd Jr., who were attending his bedside, to string up his violin so we could have some music. When the end came, he met it brave with a smile, as he had lived for seventy-four years, among his people and passed to his great reward without a struggle."
