He was a son of Elijah Bunch. James married ca 1844 Rapides LA to Mary Bass. She was born 29 February 1828 LA and died 16 March 1880 Vernon LA, daughter of James Bass and Emily Groves. Five children were born to this union. James Bunch was a charter member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church in 1869 when it was first constituted. Very soon thereafter, he was elected as a Deacon of the newly established church body. He, his wife, and all four of his daughters were charter members of the church. The issue: Elijah (b. ca 1844-5/d. during Civil War); Caroline (4 September 1845/5 September 1933 who married Louis P.
