He married on 13 Oct 1862 to Mary E. Mooney, and three daughters were born. In the 1880 Vernon Parish Census, Thomas F. Crawford listed his occupation as a farmer, but we know that he was also a schoolteacher in the early parish school system. He was also ordained to preach in 1883 at Laurel Hill Baptist Church, and he, his wife, and three daughters were all members of the Walnut Hill Church in the 1880 timeframe. When Thomas Crawford signed his name, he always used a small initial for his middle letter, and as a result was referred to as Thomas “little f” Crawford. As an elder gentleman, he had a long white beard which he usually wore in a long pigtail. The young children used to love to comb his beard into beautiful waves.
