Jowers Joseph Wilson Jowers (5 Feb 1857 Henry, AL/1 Dec 1949 Rapides LA), son of William Jowers and Mary Pope, married on 7 Jan 1877 (Vernon), LA to Amanda Elizabeth Smith (26 Jul 1857 Attala County, MS/11 Feb 1925 Grant, LA), daughter of William Smith and catharine Jane Sellars. Eleven children were born to this union. J.W. and Elizabeth Jowers are buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Joseph Jowers and Elizabeth Smith were charter members of Laurel Hill Baptist Church when it was constituted in 1869. Sometime later, they moved their letter, but returned to worship with Laurel Hill in 1888. The Jowers family moved from Vernon Parish in 1907 and settled in Verda, LA. They crossed the Red River on a ferry barge at Colfax, and established their new home in Grant Parish. The issue: (1) Mary Catharine (19 Jan 1878/7 Nov 1949 LA), married Richard Seborn Monk; (2) Martha Lucretia (26 Oct 1879), married John Dryden; (3) Joseph Wilson (27 Feb 1883/28 Oct 1957), married Minnie Lee Monk; (4) Clara Jane (25 Jul 1885/14 Apr 1975 LA), married Mitchell O. Lang; (5) Charles Elijah (11 Mar 1888/21 Aug 1977 LA), married Della Garphia Pender; (6) Benjamin Lee (14 Apr 1890/30 Apr 1957 LA), married Myrtle Byrd; (7) Aaron William (20 Mar 1892/16 Nov 1920), married Cora Beatrice Moore; (8) Jesse Isaiah (4 Jul 1894/10 Aug 1973), married Myrtie Thompson; (9) Lizzie (31 Mar 1896/10 Jun 1976 LA), married Thomas Elvin McIlwain; (10) Melda James (28 Jul 1898), married Zona Mae Bady; and (11) Archie Daniel Jowers (1 Dec 1900/1 Dec 1961), married Lolus Creed.
