Allen Cemetery - Vernon Parish, LA

This small, abandoned cemetery is located near the community Hutton
(Vernon), LA.  From LA Hwy. 8 in Simpson, turn North onto LA Hwy. 467 and
proceed toward Comrade.  At the top of a hill just before reaching Comrade,
turn South (left) onto a unimproved dirt road (used mostly by hunters), and
go approximately .5 miles.  Turn due West and continue another 1.5 miles.
This small burial ground has been abandoned for many years, is in the
middle of a forest, and off dirt trails used by hunters.  It is very
difficult to find, and probably impossible without a guide.  There is only
one erected tombstone in the cemetery with a wooden fence around the grave.
 Beside this small enclosure, there were eight (8) neatly-mounded unmarked
graves.  Burials in the unmarked graves were identified by Tom Allen of
Leesville, LA, who has also provided genealogical information. Tom is a
descendant of Uriah Turner Allen.  Tombstone inscription recorded and
information submitted by Jane P. McManus (jane_mcmanus@yahoo.com) in
January 2000.
