Ebenezer Cemetery, Vernon Parish Louisiana Submitted by: Jane McManus ********************************************** Copyright. Turn right on gravel road, and travel 1.0 miles. Cemetery is on the right side of the road, beside a chapel. It is fenced and maintained. The names of the Board of Trustees are printed on a sign at the front fence, and one of these persons must be contacted before any burial is allowed. A driveway divides the cemetery from the Chapel to the back fence. Recording began just inside the front gate. There were only a few burials on the immediate left side of the driveway and those were read first. Tombstone inscriptions were recorded by Jane P. McManus on 25 April 1996. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- History This news item appeared in the Leesville Leader, 1977. "Oscar Brack reports that .42 acres of the original two-acre Ebenezer Cemetery has been restored to the original track by a deed filed in the office of the Vernon Parish Clerk of Court, and has written the following letter to the residents of the community and surrounding area: "To the citizens of the Ebenezer Community and surrounding area who have an interest in this property, I, Oscar Brack, with all sincerity and good will toward my fellowman hope this will be a satisfactory settlement. This will complete the original two acres donated formerly by Thomas F. Crawford, 8 May 1899 (Book of Conveyances, No. 1, page 494). This is the only suitable area for cemetery purposes. I would appreciate the cooperation and consideration of the community of Ebenezer, Hicks, and surrounding areas. Oscar Brack" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Right side of driveway: Row 1 & 2: [Driveway to North Fence] McLeod, Raymond - 7 Jun 1921/[No Dates] Son McLeod, Luther M. - 5 Feb 1898/24 Apr 1982 Daddy McLeod, Almerinda - 26 Aug 1904/[No Dates] Mama [Above 3 burials have a triple stone] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Poe, Ruby P. - 25 Sep 1921/27 Oct 1976 Mother Poe, Leon S.
