Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery - Vernon Parish Sumitted by Jane P. McManus ******* ********************************************** Copyright. All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Directions: From LA Hwy. 8 East in Leesville, go North on LA Hwy. 117 for 2.5 miles. Turn left onto narrow dirt road for a short distance, and take right fork onto a dirt path. Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery is located on the left side of this path and can be seen from the fork. When this cemetery was originally copied in 1995, it was abandoned and knee-high in weeds. When the Vernon Parish Cemetery volumes were printed, a relative came forward from Texas and had the cemetery cleaned and arranged for maintenance. Today, it is clean and neat. A sign posted beside the southeast corner has the name of the cemetery. The first time tombstone inscriptions were recorded was in the 1960's by Jack Hadnot, the second time by Charlene Wilkinson in 1978, and this latest version in 1955. All of these recordings yielded the same names. The oldest marked tombstones in this burial ground have death dates in March and April of 1860 for three members of the Stephens family, with the last burial in this cemetery occurring in 1966. Genealogical notes added in brackets were taken from the notes of Jack Hadnot [deceased], Historian of Vernon Parish and should be used as clues for further research. Inscriptions were recorded as approached by Jane P. McManus on 30 April 1995. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shaw, Loretta Moore Everett - 21 Mar 1882/8 Aug 1938 [this burial is just outside an iron fenced plot] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [small iron fenced plot]: Moore, Azenath Helen [Dismukes] - 3 Dec 1839/17 Aug 1902 Wife of William H.
