Haymon Cemetery - Vernon Parish Submitted by Jane McManus ********************************************** Copyright. All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** This small burial ground is located on the Old Haymon Homestead near Vincent Creek's west bank in the Hicks Community. In Leesville, take LA Hwy. 28 East toward Alexandria, and turn South onto LA Hwy. 121. Go approximately 3.6 miles East toward Hicks, and turn right onto Parish Rd. 83. Go 1.1 miles to a logging road on the right. Park the car and walk to Vincent Creek, as the road is not passable at this location, and the cemetery can be reached only on foot, on horseback, or 4-wheeler. Cemetery is on the hill about 50 yards after crossing the creek. When Henry Haymon first came to Louisiana, he settled several hundred acres at this location. The family burial ground was established on his property. For many years this small family cemetery was abandoned and not maintained, and when Karl & Doris (Dollie) Mayo of Hicks began their family research they discovered the small graveyard. With the help of other Haymon descendants, Karl & Dollie refurbished the area, erected a chain-link fence, and placed markers at each grave. Burials were read & genealogical information was provided by Karl and Dollie Mayo, 1992.
