Turn left (south) on SPW Road and go approximately .5 miles. On the left, there is an abandoned road with an iron gate and posted sign signifying private property. The road is overgrown, and leads to the woods where the burials are located. The cemetery has no visible markings, and would be impossible to find without a guide. Mr. Donald Paddy of Leesville took me through the woods approximately 1..0 miles behind his house. In the middle of a thicket, there were four tombstones, all broken and propped against their base. Ms. Mae (Lamberth) Harvey of Evans, LA, provided historical background on this family. She and her sister, Ruby Lamberth Head of Merryville, LA, are descendants of this couple. Because of their advanced age, Ms. Harvey and her sister are unable to care for the cemetery, however, Mae remembers visiting and tending the graves when her parents were alive, and before she and her husband moved to Oklahoma. Tombstone inscriptions were recorded by Jane P. McManus 11 April 1996 with assistance from Donald Paddy and his pet deer. [& Cornelia Lamberth] Davenport -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Historical Notes on the Lamberth Family provided by Mae (Lamberth) Harvey: Jim and Harriett (Dykes) Lamberth came from Germany and settled in South Carolina. Harris and Ollie (Watson) Waller had come from Holland and also settled in South Carolina. Harris was probably a man of means as he owned a plantation there. The Lamberths were not as fortunate as the Harrises, and had to work to make a living. When Paris Childress Lamberth grew up, he went to work on the Waller plantation. Paris soon fell in love with the Waller's young daughter, Elizabeth, and the proposed union probably did not suit the Waller's aspirations for their daughter. But true love won out, and Paris married Elizabeth, and together they left to seek a life out West. By 1860, the Lamberths had arrived in Louisiana, as their oldest son Oliver D. was born here in June of 1860. Paris and Elizabeth homesteaded near Leesville, built their home in the area where they are buried. In 1878, Paris lost his wife and buried her on his property. Later his son and a grandchild died, and they were placed here also. The family buried Paris beside his wife upon his death in 1923. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There were five children listed in the 1880 Vernon Parish Census (# 134) in the home of Paris Childress Lamberth. An older brother, I. N. Lamberth lived next door with his family. P. C. Lamberth - (widow) Oliver D. Lamberth - (buried above) Cornelia A. Lamberth - born 1863/64 LA, married to W. J.
