Mill Creek Cemetery (FT. Polk # 4) - Vernon Parish, LA Submitted by Jane P. McManus ********************************************** Copyright. All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Mill Creek Cemetery is located on Eastern Mill Creek Road within the boundary of the Artillery Range of Fort Polk. The old Mill Creek Pentecostal Church established in 1914 was once housed at this site, and was one of three churches in use in 1941 when the area was purchased by the United States Government. The cemetery, located directly behind the church, was originally fenced in 1917. Karl & Doris (Dollie) Mayo have been instrumental in the restoration of several smaller, almost abandoned cemeteries in Vernon Parish, and have placed new stones on many previously unmarked graves in the parish, including this cemetery. Genealogical notes not on the tombstone are added in brackets, and were provided by the Mayos. Inscriptions were copied as approached by Jane P. McManus in 20 January 1995 and submitted 19 February 2000.
