Sunny Hill Cemetery - Vernon Parish, Louisiana Submitted by Jane McManus ********************************************** Copyright. All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** At the junction of LA 465 and LA 117 in Kurthwood, go south toward Leesville approximately .4 miles, and turn east (left) onto Cragerville Loop. Continue .7 miles down this gravel road to a junction to the right. Go straight ahead (left) and park just past the junction. The small abandoned burial ground is located on the left side (North) in the woods about 130 yards from the road in the middle of the woods. There is no path from the road to the cemetery, and although the small area is fenced, the wire is down in several places. Large trees have grown inside the fenced area, and the brush and grass was about waist high. I was unable to count unmarked burials because of the overgrowth and briars. In the 1970's, Billy Anderson of Vernon Parish inventoried this cemetery, and counted ten unmarked graves. Tombstone inscriptions were recorded as approached 22 March 1996 by Jane P. McManus, and submitted 10 October 2000. Cooper, Janie - 1912/1945 Murray, Rosa - 1898/1942 Calip, Focail L. - 18 Jun 1886/15 Nov 1949, LA Pfc. 508 Engr.
