White, William M. - 17 Aug 1823/27 Jan 1884 History William M. White was born in Georgia, s/o James M. White & Sarah Dryden. He married first, Martha Ann Riggan & second to Helen McMillan on 21 Dec 1858 in Monroe Co., AL. While living in Monroe County, Alabama, William White was a merchant, but he also served as the community physician. When the family immigrated to Rapides/Vernon Parish area in the fall of 1859/60, Dr. White set up his medical practice, and farmed his land. He also officiated as surveyor in the parish. He served in the Confederate army, and was in Vicksburg when that city fell to the Union Army. He and his wife, Helen, were instrumental in establishing the Laurel Hill Baptist Church in LaCamp, where Helen is buried.
