LEESVILLE BAPTISTS ORGANIZED 1898

The First Baptist Church of Leesville was organized in 1898 with the Rev. S.
C. Self as its pastor.  First members are listed as Mr. and Mrs. Flethcer
Farris, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Davis, Mr. and Mr. J. J. Phillips, Mrs James
Brown, Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Franklin, Lola Franklin, Arthur L. Franklin and S.
J. Walker.

The first church building was located on Fifth street; the second completed in
1901 was on Lee Street; the third completed in 1943 was on North Fifth Street,
the present church was completed in 1969 on West Texas.
