(Bob) Brumfield died at his home in Leesville on Sunday, June 22, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth A. (Peavy) Brumfield; and three children: Susan D. Pilley and Ricky P. Brumfield of Leesville and T. Phillip Brumfield of West Palm Beach, Florida; one aunt, Cecilia Stephens, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was born September 3, 1927, in Slidell, Louisiana. His family moved to DeRidder in 1929 where he attended school. He was a member of the first Air Force ROTC unit at DeRidder High School where he was also a coronet player in the band and a member of the football team. He often told stories of having to change from his football gear to finish the game. He went to McNeese University on a football scholarship for one year and then to LSU on the same scholarship. He then enlisted in the Army and spent his active duty in Germany at the end of World War II. After he fulfilled his military obligation, he attended Louisiana Technical College in Ruston, Louisiana. While at Louisiana Tech, he married Ruth A. Peavy of Leesville. He left Louisiana Tech in 1952 for employment with Gulf Oil Company as a draftsman. He then worked for Flatos appliances until he landed a job Sears, Roebuck and Company as an assistant credit manager in Houston, Texas, then Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Pueblo, Colorado as a Credit Manager. He left Sears to move home in 1969. He owned several businesses in Leesville to include Mirror Glaze Car Cleaning Service, the Cherokee Restaurant, Jim's Fine Foods, the Cherokee Drive-in, The Shoe Clinic and Dykstra's Lock and Safe which evolved into The Locksmith Shop. He retired from the Locksmith Shop in 2002, but opened Bob's Mobile Locksmith Service to keep himself busy. He was involved in his community wherever he lived. While in Pueblo, Colorado, he became an adult leader for the Boy Scouts of America. He advanced in standing with the Boy Scout organization by attending survival training at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, where he was also inducted into the Order of the Arrow. He continued as a Boy Scout Assistant Troop Leader when he moved back to Leesville. The troop's only two patrols won first and second place awards in a jamboree of all the troops in the Calcasieu Area Council as Vest All Around Survival Scouts. He was also a member of the Optimist Club of Leesville in the 1970s. He attended St. Michael's Catholic Church in Leesville. He was the best husband and father anyone could ask for and he will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 25 in the St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Angelo Messina officiating. Burial will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville.
