Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Simpson under the directon of Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008 at the Simpson Baptist Church in Simpson. Mr. Carter, 80, died on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008 at his home in Simpson. He was a resident of the Simpson area but had worked as an operator in the sulphur industry in Port Sulphur. He was a Veteran and a member of Simpson Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by one son, Mark Anthony Carter; one grandson, Christopher Lee Morgan; his parents; and two sisters. Survivors are his wife of 60 years, Betty Jo Carter of Simpson; one son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin Emerson Carter Jr and wife Gwyn of Stuarts Draft, Va.; two daughters and sons-in- law, Oene Morgan and husband Danny of Anacoco, and Martha Norra and husband Jules of Picayune, Miss.; eight grandchildren, Benjamin Emerson Carter III, Nicholas James Carter, Danny Ray Morgan Jr., Nicole Danielle Hoppert, Jennifer Brooke Melancon, Patrick Brock Melancon, Tatum Brittany Melancon and Caitlin Issacks; seven great grandchildren, Abigail Ann Carter, Mercedes Lyn Morgan, Danny Ray Morgan III, Kennedy Nicole Hoppert, Raelynn Brooke Hoppert, Breliegh Marie Melancon and Kingston Eugene Coleman.
