Funeral services for Mr. Benjamin Emerson Carter Sr. will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008 in the Simpson Baptist Church in Simpson with the Revs. Jeremy Blocker and Brett Thorton officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Simpson under the directon of Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008 at the Simpson Baptist Church in Simpson.
Mr. Carter, 80, died on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008 at his home in Simpson. He was a resident of the Simpson area but had worked as an operator in the sulphur industry in Port Sulphur. He was a Veteran and a member of Simpson Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by one son, Mark Anthony Carter; one grandson, Christopher Lee Morgan; his parents; and two sisters.
Survivors are his wife of 60 years, Betty Jo Carter of Simpson; one son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin Emerson Carter Jr and wife Gwyn of Stuarts Draft, Va.; two daughters and sons-in- law, Oene Morgan and husband Danny of Anacoco, and Martha Norra and husband Jules of Picayune, Miss.; eight grandchildren, Benjamin Emerson Carter III, Nicholas James Carter, Danny Ray Morgan Jr., Nicole Danielle Hoppert, Jennifer Brooke Melancon, Patrick Brock Melancon, Tatum Brittany Melancon and Caitlin Issacks; seven great grandchildren, Abigail Ann Carter, Mercedes Lyn Morgan, Danny Ray Morgan III, Kennedy Nicole Hoppert, Raelynn Brooke Hoppert, Breliegh Marie Melancon and Kingston Eugene Coleman.
