A native of Pitkin, Louisiana, Mr. Gibson grew up in Vernon Parish and moved to Lake Charles in 1937. He served his country during World War II as a U. S. Navy Seabee. He was a member of IBEW Local No. 861. As of March, 2002, Mr. Gibson was designated a 60-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He retired in 1981 from his 32 years with Cities Service as an electrical supervisor. Mr. Gibson was a member of the John C. Ayers Masonic Lodge No. 437, and on October 1, 2002, was named a 60-year member. He was a Scoutmaster in Boy Scouts. He was a member of the University United Methodist Church, where he was always willing to share his many talents and interests to help his friends and neighbors. Mr. Gibson enjoyed tending his vegetable garden, but found his greatest joy in loving his family. He was a dedicated husband and father and grandfather. Mr. Gibson is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Violet Morrow Gibson; one son, Gerald Gibson and his wife, Linda Parks Gibson of Madisonville, Louisiana; two daughters, Gwen Kucner and husband Richard of Timonium, Maryland and Charlene Greene and husband Donny of Lake Charles; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Gibson will be held Monday, August 22, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at University United Methodist Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. Mike McLaurin will officiate. Burial will be at Black Jack Cemetery in Grant, Louisiana on Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m. Visitation at the funeral home will be held Sunday, August 21, from 4 until 6 p.m. and on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. He was predeceased by his older sister, Muriel Gay (Gibson) Myers who passed away in 1999, and his younger brother Alton E Gibson who passed away in 2002. Surviving siblings are James C Gibson of Houston, TX, Marie (Gibson) Hughes of Golden CO, Tressie (Gibson) Sitko of Wheeling, WV, and Joyce Gibson of Troy MO.
