All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************** Leesville Leader, Leesville, Louisiana, Thursday June 20, 1946 Accident Fatal To Leesville Women Monday Evening Mrs. Johnnie Spurgeon, her twin sister, Miss Faye Hall, both of Leesville, and Mrs Barney J. Ball, Slagle, were fatally injured, from which injuries they died shortly afterwards, when the pick up truck in which they were riding collided with a gasoline truck. Leslie Spurgeon, husband of Mrs. Spurgeon, and driver of the pick up, suffered a broken back and is in a serious condition. Four children riding in the Spurgeon truck were slightly injured. The accident occured five miles north of Noble, in Sabine parish, Monday afternoon, about 5 p.m., on highway 171 Funeral services for Mrs. Spurgeon and Miss Hall were held, Wednesday, from the Union church, two miles north of Slagle, at 2 p.m. Interment was in Wales cemetery, under the direction of the Hixson Funeral Home of DeRidder. Besides her husband, Mrs Spurgeon is survived by a son, Leslie Jr., the parents of Mrs. Spurgeon and Miss Hall, Mr. and Mrs. S.L. Hall, one sister, Charlotte Jean Hall and one brother, Ralph Hall. Funeral services for Mrs. Barney J. Ball were held, Wednesday, at Walnut Hill, at 10 a.m. Interment was in the Walnut Hill cemetery, under the direction of the Hixson Funeral Home, of DeRidder. Surviving are, the husband, Barney J. Ball, Slagle, three daughters, Tommy Gene, Patsy and Billie Sue Ball, all of Slagle, one son, Wayne A. Ball, Slagle. Her parents, Mr. & Mrs. J.L. Wise, Slagle. Four sisters, Mrs. D.R. Holton, Mrs. Lois Spurgeon and Miss Alice Wise, all of Slagle, and Mrs. Edna Mitchell, Shreveport. Two brothers, W.H. and Tommy Wise, both of Slagle.
