Mrs. Cloran died Monday, March 11, in the Kindred Bay Area Hospital in Pasadena, Texas. She was a native of Alco, a longtime resident of the South Houston area and a respiratory therapist. Survivors include one daughter, Karen Mace of South Houston, Texas, and one sister, Docia Faulkner of Houston, Texas. Beulah Edwards Graveside services for Mrs. Beulah Edwards, 89, of Leesville will be held at 1 p.m. today, March 13, in the Welcome Cemetery in Simpson. Arrangements are under the direction of the Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville. Mrs. Edwards died Monday, March 11, in Leesville. Survivors include one son, David Lee Edwards. Kathleen Williams Funeral services for Mrs. Kathleen Blow Barrett Williams, 53, of Oakland, Calif., will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 14, in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Leesville with the Rev. Robert M. Eckerle Jr. officiating. Mrs. Williams died Tuesday, March 5, in Oakland, Calif. She was a homemaker. Survivors include one daughter, Kimberly Barrett of Atlanta, Ga.; five sisters, Lorraine Roberts of California, Belinda Sweat of Leesville, Ruth Self, Oceana Wright and Betty Ellis, all of Dallas, Texas; four brothers, Samuel Blow of San Diego, Calif., Ernest Blow and Robert Blow, both of Atlanta, Ga., and Vernon Blow of Leesville, and two grandchildren. March 14, 2002 Edna Marsh Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Ruth Dowden Marsh, 52, of Pitkin will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 158, in the Rush Funeral Home chapel in Oakdale with the Rev. Mrs. Marsh died Tuesday, March 12, in the Oakdale Community Hospital. She was a native of Anacoco, a homemaker and attended Arkadelphia Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Robert "Bert" Marsh of Leesville; two daughters, Susan Garrett of Sulphur and Jennifer Christine Ingles of San Marcos, Texas; two brothers, Roland Dowden of Anacoco and Steve Dowden of Leesville, and four grandchildren. March 15, 2002 Joseph Mangano Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Morris Mangano, 77, of DeRidder will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeRidder with Father Danny Tores officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in DeRidder under the direction of the Labby Memorial Funeral Home of Leesville. Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m., today, in the funeral home. Mr. Mangano died Tuesday, March 12, in his residence. He retired in 1989 from the City of DeRidder as the building inspector. He owned Crystal Lounge in Leesville for 15 years and worked for Humble Oil Company as a group crew foreman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II and a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a former member of the Kiwanis of DeRidder. Survivors include one sister, Joanna "GiGi" Montabano Roundtree of Pittsburgh, Texas. March 17, 2002 Mary Owenby Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. Owenby, 70, of Leesville were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16, in the Hixson Funeral Home chapel in Leesville with the Rev. Gil Arthur officiating. Burial followed in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Leesville. Mrs. Owenby died Thursday, March 14, in her residence. She was a native of South Carolina, a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary; Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post #387 and the Columbus Lodge #7. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Wiggins of Gastonia, N.C., and one sister, Edna Lou Horstman of Leesville. March 22, 2002 Jewel Addison Funeral services for Mrs. Jewel E. Mrs. Addison died Wednesday, March 20, in the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Kennedy, Texas, and a longtime resident of the Anacoco-Vernon Parish area. She was a longtime member of the Evans Community Church, homemaker and worked for 10 years as a nursing home dietician. Survivors include three daughters, Virginia A. Egan, Pearl Lynn and Diane Austin, all of Burr Ferry; seven grandchildren and 18 great- grandcgildren. Don Wright Funeral services for Mr. Don C. Mr. Wright died Wednesday, March 20, in Alexandria. March 26,2002 Bill French Funeral services for Mr. Bill French, 72, of Copperas Cove, Texas, were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in the Christian House of Prayer in Copperas Cove, Texas, with Chaplain Doug Brown officiating. Mr. French died Saturday, Feb. 23, in Shreveport from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Vernon Parish. Roger Gill officiating. Burial followed in the Rosepine Cemetery. Mrs. Midkiff died Saturday, March 23, in the DuBuis Hospital in Lake Charles. She was a native of Bamberg, Germany and lived in Rosepine for the past 40 years. Survivors include her husband, Clancy Midkiff Sr. of Rosepine; one son, Thurman Trussell of Orange, Texas; one step-son, Clancy Midkiff Jr. of Rosepine; two daughters, Karen Ocraman and Selma Stuckey, both of Deweyville, Texas; one sister, Lotte Scharold of Bamberg, Germany; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Rainwater died Saturday, March 23, in her residence. She was a native of DeQuincy and a resident of DeRidder most of her life. She was a housewife and co-owner of Rainwater and Son Roofing Inc. She was a member of Sugartown Baptist Church and attended Sandy Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Raymond Rainwater Sr. of DeRidder; one daughter, Alton J. He was born in Leesville and worked as a carpenter and mobile home mover. Survivors include three brothers, Emite Leroy Rose of Rosepine, David Rose of Sulphur and W.H. Rose of Leesville, and two sisters Linda C. Finger of San Antonio, Texas, and Joyce Rose Simmons of Leesville. Francis Soden Funeral services for Mr. Francis W. Soden, 77, of Toledo Village, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 26, in the Labby Memorial Funeral Home chapel in Leesville with the Rev. Andy Addison officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service today in the funeral home. Mr. Soden died Saturday, March 23, in Alexandria. He was born in Monroe Township, Ohio. He served in the Ohio National Guard, and retired from the National Guard. He also retired from the Postal Service. He was a member of the Burkeville Church of Christ and lived in Lake Charles for 32 years before moving to Toledo Village, Texas in 1986. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Soden of Toledo Village, Texas; two daughters, Yolanda Lee Palm of Phoenix, Ariz., and Brenda Starr Freebourn of Ormond, Fla.; three grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Mr. Sibley died Monday, March 25, in the Pine Haven Nursing Home in Rosepine. He was a native of Many and a resident of Leesville since his return from Europe after World War II. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post # 510. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae Rock. Survivors include six sons, Fred J. Sibley and Rodney J. Mrs. Goodwin died Wednesday, March 27, in the Beauregard Nursing Home in DeRidder. She was a native of Pitkin and lived in DeRidder most of her life. She was a member of the Grabow Pentecostal Church in DeRidder. Survivors include one son, Ellis Goodwin Sr. of Merryville; one daughter, Merle Bailey of DeRidder; one brother, Luke Calhoun of Rosepine; two sisters, Delma Goodwin and Dessie Young, both of DeRidder; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. April 2, 2002 James Bailey III A memorial service for James Wilson Bailey III, 59, of Lafayette will be held on Wednesday, April 3, at 1 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church in Rosepine. He was born Aug. 22, 1942. He died March 22, 2002, at his residence. He is survived by one son, Randy of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Buddy Molpus of Longview, Texas; his mother, Marjorie Cronk of Sacramento, Calif.; his step-mother, Maureen Bailey of Leesville; one brother, Roderick Bailey of Longview; two sisters, Brenda Saldana of Sacramento, Calif., and Penny Benner of Blythwood, S.C., and two grandsons, Kyle and Austin Molpus, both of Longview, Texas. He is preceded in death by his father, James Bailey Jr., and two sisters, MaryAnn Bailey and Linda Galeano. Richard Jessop Funeral services for Mr. Richard A. He was a native of Baltimore, Md., and lived in the Leesville area for 30 years. He had retired from the U.S. Navy, having served in Vietnam and Korea having received numerous honors for his service. He served as a state police security officer for Gov. Edwin Edwards and had worked for the Leesville City Police Department. He was of the Pentecostal faith. He was preceded in death by one son, James G. Floyd. Survivors include his wife, Elaine Warden Jessop of New Llano; one daughter, Barbara Moore of Slagle; two grandchildren and one great- grandchild. Rev. Vessie Prewitt Funeral services for the Rev. He surrendered to the ministry in 1950 and pastored churches in north and central Louisiana and east Texas. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. Survivors include two sons, James Prewitt of Leesburg, Fla., and Wayne Prewitt of West Monroe; two daughters, Bonnie Barnes of Longview, Texas, and Jennie Johnson of Bossier City; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was a veteran and was active in the Army Reserve for the past 30 years. He was a maintenance supervisor and member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Hornbeck. Mr. Fulton died Friday, April 5, in Alexandria. He was a native of Bedford County, Va., served in the U.S. Air Force for four and one-half years and retired from civil service after 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie E. Jones, and one son, Jackie Lee Jones. Survivors include four sons, Gerald L. She was a school bus driver for 25 years. She was a pastor's wife and assisted her husband in his ministry for over 48 years. She was a member of the Burr Ferry United Pentecostal Church. He was born and raised in Montrose where he attended school. He entered the U.S. Marines and served for 13 years. He was employed as a correctional officer with the Department of Corrections for 25 years. He was preceded in death by one son, Melvin Marshall. Mr. Sepulveda died Friday, April 12, in the Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport. He was a native and lifelong resident of the Leesville-Vernon Parish area and was in the construction business. Survivors include his mother, Karol Cherry of Leesville; his father, Luis O. Sepulveda of Georgia; his maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Carol and Andy Andrews of Leesville, and his paternal grandmother, Hannelore Mujica of DeRidder. "Red," chief warrant officer 3, William Albert East, resident of Leesville, died Thursday, May 2, of respitory failure caused by a rare blood disease lodged in his lungs. "Red," as he was known to his friends, was a career U.S. Army man. He served his country in Vietnam, the Gulf War and other theatres of operation. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Mr. East was a member of the American Legion of Retired Veterans and a member of Cooper Baptist Church. After his retirement from the U.S. Army in 1993, "Red" chose Leesville for his home for himself, his wife and three children. Mr. Jordan died Thursday, May 9, in Pascagoula, Miss. Mr. Jordan was born March 15, 1922, in Leesville, La. He enlisted in the Navy in July of 1940 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese air raid on December 7, 1941. Following that, he was assigned aboard the USS Lexington, and survived the sinking of that ship in the Battle of the Coral Sea during May 1942. In 1945, Jordan was assigned to the USS Fallon, an assault transport, where he saw action in the Iwo Jima invasion. The Fallon was one of the first ships to occupy Japan when troops landed at Sasebo, Japan, and also participated in the atomic bomb testing in Bikini Atoll. He was aboard the USS Skagite in 1947 when he and the crew helped evacuate the United States personnel and supplies from China prior to the Communist takeover in 1948. He was aboard the USS Seminole that participated in a re-supply expedition to Pt. Barrow, Alaska, and action in Korea in 1950. Lt. Commander Jordan was first commissioned in 1959 and was assigned duty aboard the USS Thomaston. He was assigned to the USS Dubuque in 1968 in Vietnam before retired from the military in 1970. Mr. Jordan has been a resident of Pascagoula since 1970. He also retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding after 18 years of service. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Coronado, Calif., and of the Masonic Lodge where he was a Grand Mason. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association of the United States Navy Institute and the Smithsonian Institute. The Lt. Com. received numerous awards inhis lifetime they include, Navy Good Conduct Medal (five stars); Asiatic Pacific Theater (five stars, one silver, two bronze); Japan Occupation; China Operations; Korean War (four stars); Presidential Unit Citation (Korea); United Nations (Korea); Vietnam Operations (four stars); Korean Presidential Unit Citation; Navy Achievement Medal (two awards) and the Navy Commendation Medal. Mrs. Phillips died Monday, July 1, in the Providence Memorial Hospital in ElPaso, Texas. She was a native of San Antonio, Texas and a longtime resident of the Leesville-Vernon Parish area. She was a longtime member of the Cooper Baptist Church and was retired from Fort Polk where she had worked in finance and accounting for over 20 years. July 10, 2002 Arlie Walker-Adams Arlie Walker Adams, 85 died July 8, 2002, in the Lake Charles residence of her daughter and son-in-law Evelyn and Jimmy Phillips. At the time of death, her children, and many of her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who she loved unconditionally, surrounded her. For the last ten years she waged a courageous battle against Parkinson's Disease which slowly weakened her body but not her steadfast faith in the Lord. Her desire to serve others led her to a nursing career, which spanned over 50 years. Arlie spent most of career at Beauregard Memorial Hospital in DeRidder, Louisiana where she served at various times as nurse anesthetist, Director of Nurses, physical therapist, and Director of In-Service Training. In 1993 the hospital dedicated the Arlie Walker-Adams Memorial Park in honor of her many years of dedicated service to the community. She was a member for many years of the First Baptist Church in DeRidder. Arlie is survived by two daughters, Linda Germana of Martinsburg, West Virginia and Evelyn Phillips of Lake Charles; one son, Charles B. Walker of San Diego, Ca.; one brother, L.H. She was born Jan. 28, 1931, the daughter of John L. Prudhomme, Sr. and Daisy Armstrong Prudhomme. She was a graduate of Mansfield High School and Northwestern State University. She was employed by Firestone Tire and Rubber, serving Lake Charles and Salinas, Calif. She later retired from the Louisiana Attorney General's Office as a purchasing agent. She was an active member of the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. She participated as a eucharist minister and lay reader. She held membership in the Alter Society and Catholic Daughters of the Americas, where she advanced through the offices to District Deputy of the Baton Rouge area. She was also the immediate Past Regent of St. Louis Court #1816. Survivors include one sister, Janice Prudhomme Droddy of Leesville and two brothers, Gerald D. Prudhomme of Rambin and John L. Mr. French died Feb. 23, 2002, at a Shreveport hospital due to injuries sustained a week earlier in an automobile accident in Leesville. He was born Nov. 25, 1929, in Denver, Colo., where he was raised and graduated in 1948 from North Denver High School. French graduated from the University of Colorado in 1952, lettering for three years starting in 1950 as he was the Colorado state wrestling champion. He also participated in the ROTC program there while majoring in physical education. Upon completion of school, he entered the U.S. Army. He married the former Patsy Joe Wiley on Dec. 29, 1956, while in Germany. French retired in 1977 from the U.S. Army after 24 years of service as an Army aviator with two tours of duty in Vietnam with 4,700 hours of flight time, including 3,700 in helicopters. French had lived in Copperas Cove since 1974 and was a member of the Exchange Club, the Cove Bike Club, the American Red Cross, the board of directors of the Cove Sunshine Home and a mentor at Fairview Elementary School. He also delivered Meals on Wheels. He was of the Protestant faith. Cora Wilson Sister Cora Shade Wilson, the second child of James and Julia Shade, was born in Picayune, Miss. She was baptized at an early age by the Rev. G.B. Holman in Wiergate, Texas. When her family moved to Leesville, she united with the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, faithfully serving under the leaderships of the Revs. D.L. Carter, Monroe W. Harrison and Joseph L. Garner. After graduating from Grambling State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, Sister Wilson taught music in the public schools of Cameron, then came home to teach in -- and retire from -- the Vernon Parish school system. Her numerous civic commitments included the Mount Olive Chapter of the OES, the NAACP, the Concerned Adults for Youth Involvement (CAYI), the J.K. Hayes Foundation, the Louisiana Educators Association, the Louisiana Association of Educators, the Leesville Reading Club and the James H. and Julia M. Shade Scholarship Foundation. Her unselfish scarifices yielded her many awards, among which included the Struggle for Excellence Award from the Leesville Ministerial Alliance, the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church 55 years of Service Award, Leesville City- Wide Singing Convention Appreciation Award, the Calcasieu Missionary and Education Association 50-Year Membership Award, Honorary State Senator and the Mrs Cora Lee Shade Wilson Day proclaimed by the Office of the Mayor, Leesville. Sister Wilson was the epitome of devoted, disciplined service, evidenced byher having assisted other area churches when called upon and serving 62 years as the Senior Musician for the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Leesville. That duty involved her playing for the Cherub, Junior and Senior choirs, the Mission and Male choruses, the Drill ministry, the Baptist Training union, the Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She also served as pianist for the Leesville City-Wide Singing Convention, the Leesville Community Choir, the Vernon Parish Community Choir, Faith, Hope and Charity Ensemble, and the Vernon Parish Training School. Deaconess, Adult Sunday School Teacher, Adult Choir Member, Assistant Teacher for the Women's Missionary Society and Assistant Teacher for the Baptist Training Union, Sister Wilson's treasure was her service to God, and there her heart was also. A virtuous woman, worth far more than rubies (Proverbs 31:10), Sister Wilson changed her residency from 120 Fourth Street, New Llano, to Eternity Street, Heaven, on August 3, 2002, at 6:53 a.m. Preceded in death by her husband, Calvin, and her daughter, Veronica, she leaves to cherish her memory five children, Cassandra F. Mr. Johnson began work as a school bus driver with Vernon Parish schools in 1944. He retired in 1974. He was also a cattleman and owner of Johnsonville convenience store. He was a legend in his time. He loved life and would often talk about his experiences from past generations. He had a great sense of humor. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Johnson. He was born October 25, 1911. Thomas is a former native of Vernon Parish, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Marion Shankle, and Frances self Shankle, three brothers Jim Shankle, Curtis Shankle and Alex Shankle, and three sisters, Artie Morrison, Nora Jeane and Lola Jeane. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Esma Jane Haymon Shankle; daughter, Delores Jane Thorne, son-in-law, Gerald, of Sunnyvale, Texas, granddaughters, Deborah Jane Mulder of Herst, Texas, and Karee Jane Thorne, many nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Shankle and family moved to Beaumont, Texas, in 1942. He worked at the Pennsylvania Shipyard where he helped to build C-1 cargo ships as a welder. Tom retired from Mobile Oil after working for Mobile 25 years. After retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Shankle moved to Toledo Bend Village, where he lived for 18 years enjoying the beautiful lake, fishing and their worship of God at the Toledo Bend Mission. Due to Tom's illness, they moved to Jasper, Texas, where they lived for 6 years. There they attended Hillcrest Baptist Church when health permitted. Recently, in September 2001, they moved to Sunnyvale, Texas, to be near their children. Tom was a gifted, beloved wife and children. His gentle manner and generous heart will be greatly missed by those who love him so much. His presence will be with us forever and his memory will be passed on with love. Sammie Robinson Sammie Lee Robinson Jr. Lt. Col. U.S. Army, Retired, age 91, died Oct. 18, 2002, at the Arizona State Veterans Home in Phoenix, Ariz. Born Feb. 26, 1911, in Comite, La. Sam was a 33rd degree mason and a 70-year member of the Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Pride, La. He had three careers, retiring from the U.S. Post Office and the U.S. Army after 20-years with each, then worked for Exxon as a marine inspector until again retiring. While in the Army, he served in the Philipines and Alaska harbor command during World War II, in Korean and Japan as a postal officer, New York City as APO postal officer, France as a postal inspector and at Fort Polk as a protocol officer. Sammie is the oldest and last surviving of eight children of Sammie Sr. and Susan Lee Robinson. His daughter, Bobbie Robinson of Mesa, Ariz., and stepdaughters, Gaye Diaz of New York and Brenda Pickleman of Michigan, survive him. Chester Creighton Owen, 77, a longtime educator and civic leader in Leesville, died at his residence Saturday, Nov.9. Mr. Owen had a long and distinquished career as an educator in Vernon Parish. He taught English for many years in the school system before serving the Vernon Parish School Board as a guidance counselor, supervisor of instruction, director of cirriculum and finally as Superintendent of Vernon Parish Schools. Mr. Owen was respected and admired by teachers and students alike as a dedicated and compassionate teacher and leader. He continued his career in education after retiring as Superintendent of Schools by serving as an adjunct and graduate advisor for Northwestern State University and at the time of his death was Executive Director of the Leesville-Fort Polk campus for Northwestern State. Mr. Owen's educational background included a Bachelor of Arts, Masters of Education, plus-45 graduate hours from Louisiana State University; in addition, graduate studies at McNeese State University, Northwestern State University and the University of Southern California, the Gesell Institute of Child Development-New haven, Conn; School Administrator Summer CODIFIL Program-Seve, France, and School Administrator Summer CODIFIL Program-Brussels, Belgium. He was aa committed to his community as he was to education, having served as president of the PTA, Vernon Parish Guidance Counselors Association, Vernon Parish Teachers Association, Louisiana Schools Supervisors Association, Leesville-Vernon Parish Chamber of Commerce (twice), Leonidas Polk Chapter of the Association of the United States Army, Armed Services YMCA, Leesville Little Theater, Vernon Parish Chapter of the American Red Cross. In addition, Mr. Owen served as district finance chairman, Boy Scouts of America, Board Member Boys and Girls Club, Board Member City of Leesville Civil Service Board, Governor's Military Advisory Commission, former Governor's Military Liaison to Fort Polk, former board member Vernon Council on Aging, Museum Association of West Louisiana and director of Economic Development for the City of Leesville. At the time of his death, Mr. Owen was a board member of the Association of the United States Army, the Leesville-Vernon Chamber of Commerce, Vernon Parish Library Board, the Vernon Parish Historical District (chairman), chairman, Vernon Correctional Committee, charter member (NSU Chapter) Phi Delta Kappa, life member, Sigma Chi Faternity, member Sons of American Revolution, Vernon Arts Council and was a Mason, Shriner and a veteran, having served in the United States Army. Mr. Owen was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the Administrative and Board of Trustees, Sunday school teacher (11 years) and choir member (15 years). In addition to his many other activities, he and his devoted and beloved wife of 47 years, Gloria Leach Owen, successfully operated a ladies clothing and apparel store, The Style Center, for many years in Leesville. Mr. Owen received many honors and awards during his lifetime, including PTA Lifetime Achievement Award, Northwestern State Universtity Phi Delta Kappa Educator of the Year, selected to attend the U.S. Army War College National Security Seminiar, Louisiana Representative to Joint Orientation Conference-Department of Defense, King of Mardi Gras-St. Michael's Catholic Church, 5th Infantry Division, Achievement Award for Outstanding Service, Department of the Army, Commanders' Medal and Award for Outstanding Public Service, National Advisory Board Award, Association of the United States Army, and Northwestern State University, Nth degree Award for Devotion to Duty and Meritorious Service to Mankind. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mrs. Gloria Leach Owen of Leesville, his son and daughter-in-law, Lt. Col. He was a past troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the AUSA and a member of the Kentucky Colonels Association. He was awarded numerous military awards and decorations during a 21 year career. The Combat Valor Awards were earned during two tours of duty in Vietnam. Mr. Jones died at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, in his home in Leesville. He was a native of Leesville and graduated from Evans High School with honors. The last four years of high school was with perfect attendance. He served in south Asia during the Vietnam War as a tele-communication officer. He retired from the Air Force with honors. He was member of the Retired American Legion Post #387. David Horsley Funeral services for Mr. David Wayne Horsley, 46, of DeRidder will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, in the Christway Church in DeRidder with the Rev. Kennis Smith officiating. He was a native of Rapid City S.D., and lived in DeRidder area since 1970. He was a member of the Christway Church and was a painter for 25 years. Burial will follow in the East Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Solley died Wednesday, Dec. 25. She was a native of Leesville. Mrs. Martin died Wednesday, Dec. 25, in the Community Care Center in Leesville. She was a native and lifelong resident of Vernon Parish a member of the Anacoco United Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur L. Tilley, and one son, Thomas F. Tilley. Survivors include two sons, Lewis W. Tilley of Florien and William E. Doyle, 70, of Stockton, Calif., were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, in the Gravel Hill Cemetery in Cravens under the direction of the Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville. Mrs. Doyle died Thursday, Dec. 19, in her residence in Stockton, Calif. She was a native of Hamilton, Ohio, and a former resident of the Vernon Parish area. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lelon Doyle, and one grandchild. Survivors include three sons, Gordon Williams and Randy Williams, both of Stockton, Calif., and Jeff Williams of St. Claire, Mo.; two daughters, Verna Parada of Woodland, Calif., and Lois Hardy of Mesquite, Texas; one brother, Lewis Frost of Hamilton, Ohio; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was a native of Vernon Parish and lived in the Leesville area most of his life. He was a member of the Rosepine United Pentecostal Church. Surviviors include one daughter, Sue Richardson of Natchitoches; one son, Vernon James of Front Royal, Va.; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great- great-grandchildren. Verna M. Sumler Funeral services for Mrs. Verna M. Sumlar, 80, of Leesville will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, in the Labby Memorial Funeral Home in Leesville with the Rev. Wallace Palmer and Bro. Travis Murray officiating. Burial will follow in the Cooper Cemetery in Pickering. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of service Sunday in the funeral home. Mrs. Sumlar died Thursday, Dec. 26, in Leesville. She was born in Beaver, La., but had lived in Vernon Parish all of her life. She was a graduate of Pickering High School and member of Jackson Chapel Church of Christ. She was a mother, grandmother, seamstress and homemaker. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Sumler; her parents, Dutch and Rosa McLaren, and two sisters, Nelda "Bebee" Hinson and Hannah "Boots" Brossard. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Verna and Roland Jones of Leesville; one aunt, Pearl Hunt of Tulsa, Okla.; two grandchildren, Amanda Jones of Austin, Texas, Raymond and Gina Jones of Leesville, and numerous nieces and nephews. December 31, 2002 Randy Brooks Funeral services for Mr. Randy Dean Brooks, 46, of Lake Charles will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, in the Glad Tidings Assembly of God with the Rev. Carl Ducat officiating. Burial will follow in the Prewitts Chapel Cemetery in Hornbeck under the direction of the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. today, Dec. 31, in the funeral home, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday in the church. Mr. Brooks died Monday, Dec. 30, in a Lake Charles hospital. He was a native of Hornbeck and lived in Lake Charles for the past six years. He was a graduate of Hornbeck High School in 1976 and was the owner and operator of Randy Brooks Construction for 25 years. He was a member of the Glad Tidings Assembly of God. Survivors include his wife, Connie Dowden Brooks of Moss Bluff; two daughters, Lacey Brooks and Shalei Brooks, both of Moss Bluff; his mother and father, Billie and Ivy Brooks of Hornbeck, and one brother, Travis Brooks of Merryville.
